The purpose of this study was to find the frequency distribution ofa SNP rs2297480 of the human FDPS gene and its influences on BMD and bone turnover markers in postmenopausal Thai women who never-use any anti-osteoporotic drugs. ⋯ This is the first research investigating the gene FDPS rs2297480 SNP in postmenopausal Thai women. The frequency distribution of this SNP is the same as the distribution of the Asians but different from the Caucasians'. There are some small trends in the lower baseline of BMD at femoral neck and total hip in CC genotype group of these postmenopausal women although the results are not statistically significant. The effect of rs229748 SNP did not contribute to the baseline of BMD as well as the baseline of bone turnover markers before the treatment.

Fractures with related problems including intercalary bone defect, shortening, and malunion are still major problems in orthopedic practice. The Ilizalov's circular external fixator device has several advantages for bone reconstruction but also has certain drawbacks such as its bulkiness and complicated mounting. To maintain the advantages of Ilizalov's original concept and combine with the simplicity of monolateral frame, a new design multifunction dynamic external fixator system was developed to overcome the drawbacks. ⋯ The new design multifunction dynamic external fixator system was successfully used for bone transportation, bone lengthening, and malunion correction with good results and low complications. It is simple, safe, and easy to use.

The Onodi cell (sphenoethmoidal cell) is an anatomical variation of the most posterior ethmoid air cell the pneumatizes laterally and/or superiorly to the sphenoid sinus and is intimately in contact with the optic nerve. If it is infected or goes unrecognized during surgery it may result in serious damage to the optic nerve. Nowadays, computed tomographic scans of paranasal sinuses (CT PNS) have been used to detect variations in paranasal sinus anatomy However there is a lack of data about the variations of Onodi cell. ⋯ The prevalence of Onodi cell diagnosed by CT scans was 49.5% (95% CI 44.4-54.5) and the most common pattern was the combined type. This information may be useful for those who perform endoscopic sinus surgery.

To determine the outcome of hydroxyapatite (HA) mixed with autogenous bone marrow (BM) and local bone graft in posterolateral lumbar fusion. ⋯ Despite the posterolateral lumbar fusion using HA mixed with BM and local bone graft provided good clinical results, the radiographic results of spinal fusion were questionable in most cases.

The tibial shaft is one of the most common sites of open fracture. External fixators emerged as the treatment of choice for high energy open tibial fractures because they were easy to apply, allow sufficient access for wound care and provide sufficient mechanical fixation for patient mobilization and bone healing. Based on the advantages of dynamization in increased union rate and the simplicity of monolateral frame, a new design dynamic external fixator system was developed for definite treatment in open tibial fracture. ⋯ The new design dynamic external fixator system successfully treated open tibial fractures with a good result and low complication rate. It is simple, safe, and easy to use.
