Out of 6319 live born babies, 310 (4.9%) with high risk factors and with clinical suspicion of sepsis were studied for incidence pattern of neonatal infections. Incidence of neonatal infection was 2.56% in normal weight babies and 8.42% in low birth weight babies. Total culture positivity was 48.38%. ⋯ Majority of klebsiella species were sensitive to ceftriaxone (86%), amikacin (84%) and ceftazidime (80%). Ceftriaxone was effective against Staph aureus (95%) and Staph epidermidis (95%). Overall fatality was 17.1%, distinctly higher in low birth weight group (22.06%) than normal weight group (6.18%).

Evaluation of computed tomograms in paediatric head trauma.
Computed tomograms of 107 patients of head trauma in the paediatric age group were evaluated. Generalised brain swelling (44%) and falx sign (44%) were the commonest findings observed in the computed tomograms. The overall mortality was 16.8% of which all except one were those with Glasgow coma scale between 3 and 7.

Thirty-four patients with burns were subjected to the clinicopathological study with special reference to culture of the wound and histological examination of the burned tissue. The commonest cause of burn was thermal burn (91.18%) followed by electric burn (5.88%) and chemical burn (2.94%). The maximum number of patients belonged to second and third decades of life (61.78%). ⋯ Biopsies were done in 17 patients and showed maximum incidence of bacterial infection followed by fungal infection. Patients with burn more than 60% of total body surface area (TBSA) had 100% mortality, while patients with 20-30% of TBSA burn had 20% mortality, the overall mortality was 50%. Biopsies of the burn wound played an important role in the accurate diagnosis and thus helped in starting early specific therapy to prevent death from sepsis.
