[Prognostic value of the pattern of multiple organ dysfunctions in severe acute pancreatitis].
A relationship was studied between the outcomes of severe acute pancreatitis and the pattern and multiple organ dysfunctions in 72 patients. Organ dysfunction was observed in 39 (54.2%) patients: multiple organ dysfunction (MOD) in 20 (27.8%) patients and dysfunction of an organ or a system in 19 (26.4%). The deceased patients had a statistically significantly higher incidence of MOS than the survivors (88.2% versus 9.1%; p < 0.01). Logistic regression showed that only respiratory and neurological dysfunctions were the factors that predispose to death.

[Alveolar opening maneuver (mobilization) in intraoperative pulmonary oxygenizing dysfunction in cardiosurgical patients].
The purpose of the study was to investigate arterial oxygenation and hemodynamics during and after alveolar mobilization in the early post-cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) period of cardiac surgery. The study involved 21 patients aged 30 to 73 years, who had a PaO2/FiO2 below 300 mm Hg in the early post-CPB period. PaO2/FiO2 was less than 200 mm Hg in 4 patients. ⋯ Hemodynamic parameters returned to the baseline levels after alveolar mobilization. There were no significant hemodynamic complications. It is concluded that alveolar mobilization is an effective technique in improving arterial oxygenation and lung biomechanics in cardiosurgical patients under anesthesia.
