ReviewSleep bruxism and sleep-disordered breathing: a systematic review.
To carry out a systematic review to consolidate current knowledge on the potential association between sleep bruxism (SB) and sleep-disordered breathing (SDB). ⋯ There is not sufficient scientific evidence either to confirm or discredit the association between SB and SDB.

Comparative StudyPainful traumatic trigeminal neuropathy: an open study on the pharmacotherapeutic response to stepped treatment.
To evaluate pharmacotherapeutic success in patients with painful traumatic trigeminal neuropathy (PTTN) and to identify patient or pain characteristics that may predict treatment outcome. ⋯ This study underpins the poor pharmacotherapeutic prognosis of PTTN. The results support findings on neuropathic pain in other sites and point to the need for further research and reexamination of current PTTN treatment protocols.

Comparative StudyQuantitative sensory testing in patients with or without ongoing pain one year after orthognathic surgery.
To (1) quantitatively investigate the possible long-term surgical impact of orthognathic surgery on the patients' trigeminal somatosensory functions and (2) investigate the influence of ongoing pain on the trigeminal somatosensory functions of the patients. ⋯ The pattern of sensory alteration in orthognathic surgical patients with or without pain was characterized by sensory loss in thermal parameters and non-nociceptive mechanosensory parameters and sensory gain in nociceptive mechanosensory parameters. The elevated VDT might be a potential indicator of the impact of postoperative pain on trigeminal somatosensory functions.

Fatigue mediates the relationship between pain interference and distress in patients with persistent orofacial pain.
To test the role of fatigue and its subtypes (general, physical, emotional, mental, and vigor) in mediating the relationship between psychological distress and pain interference. ⋯ These results suggest that interventions targeted specifically at fatigue symptoms may be helpful for reducing interference and improving quality of life in patients with persistent orofacial pain.

Beliefs and distress about orofacial pain: patient journey through a specialist pain consultation.
To explore patients' understanding of their orofacial pain, as this is an under-researched area despite emerging as a common aim of consultation. ⋯ Patients' fears and beliefs about chronic orofacial pain are dominated by worrying and searching for meaning before consultation. Information about their chronic pain condition counters feelings of helplessness and supports sense-making around pain when explanations are clear, are delivered sensitively from a trusted source, and take into account the patient's existing health beliefs; this promotes self-management. These findings underline the important functions of specialist consultation in achieving a shared accurate understanding of pain and options for treatment.
