Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Genetic variants associated with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis susceptibility and mortality: a genome-wide association study.
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a devastating disease that probably involves several genetic loci. Several rare genetic variants and one common single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of MUC5B have been associated with the disease. Our aim was to identify additional common variants associated with susceptibility and ultimately mortality in IPF. ⋯ National Institutes of Health; National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation; Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis; and Instituto de Salud Carlos III.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Intravenous or nebulised magnesium sulphate versus standard therapy for severe acute asthma (3Mg trial): a double-blind, randomised controlled trial.
Previous studies suggested intravenous or nebulised magnesium sulphate (MgSO(4)) might improve respiratory function in patients with acute asthma. We aimed to determine whether intravenous or nebulised MgSO(4) improve symptoms of breathlessness and reduce the need for hospital admission in adults with severe acute asthma. ⋯ UK National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment Programme.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Magnesium sulphate in acute severe asthma in children (MAGNETIC): a randomised, placebo-controlled trial.
Little evidence is available for the effect of nebulised magnesium sulphate (MgSO(4)) in acute asthma in children. We assessed the effect of MgSO(4) treatment in children with severe acute asthma. ⋯ National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment Programme.
