Intestinal injury can be reduced by intra-arterial postischemic perfusion with hypertonic saline.
To investigate the effect of local intestinal perfusion with hypertonic saline (HTS) on intestinal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) in both ex vivo and in vivo rat models. ⋯ Brief intestinal postischemic perfusion with HTS(365mOsm) through the SMA followed by blood flow restoration is a protective procedure that could be used for the prevention of intestinal IRI.

Comparative StudyComparison of fatty liver index with noninvasive methods for steatosis detection and quantification.
To compare noninvasive methods presently used for steatosis detection and quantification in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). ⋯ FLI has striking agreement with SteatoTest and moderate agreements with AUS or HRI. However, if intermediate values are excluded FLI has high diagnostic value vs AUS.

ReviewRetroperitoneal fibrosis associated with immunoglobulin G4-related disease.
Retroperitoneal fibrosis is a rare disease characterized by the development of inflammation and fibrosis in the soft tissues of the retroperitoneum and other abdominal organs. Retroperitoneal fibrosis can be of 2 types: idiopathic and secondary. The recently advocated concept and diagnostic criteria of immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related disease, derived from research on autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP), has led to widespread recognition of retroperitoneal fibrosis as a condition caused by IgG4-related disease. ⋯ In most cases, the pancreatic lesion and retroperitoneal fibrosis improve after the initial treatment. However, the epidemiology, treatment for recurring retroperitoneal fibrosis, and long-term prognosis are still largely unknown. Further analysis of such cases and research are necessary.

Short and long-term outcomes of endoscopic balloon dilatation for Crohn's disease strictures.
To investigate the short and long-term outcomes of endoscopic balloon dilatation (EBD) for Crohn's disease (CD) strictures. ⋯ Anastomotic strictures were associated with better long-term outcomes than de novo strictures, indicating that stricture type might be useful for predicting the long-term outcomes of EBD.

Correlation of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 expression with clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis in gastric cancer.
To investigate human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) gene amplification and protein expression in Chinese patients with resectable gastric cancer and the association with clinicopathological characteristics and survival. ⋯ Patients with intestinal type gastric cancer (GC), well-differentiated GC and poorly-differentiated GC without lymph node metastasis, may all represent suitable candidates for targeted therapy using Herceptin.
