Prognostic value of the combined variability of mean platelet volume and neutrophil percentage for short-term clinical outcomes of sepsis patients.
In this single center retrospective cohort study, 784 patients with sepsis were enrolled and followed up for at least 30 days. The selected endpoint was an all-cause mortality event. ⋯ The combination of MPV-CV and NEU%-CV provides a good prognostic value and is a strong independent predictor of short-term clinical outcomes in patients with sepsis. An MPV-CV ≥ 15.00% + NEU%-CV ≥ 16.00% is significantly associated with adverse short-term clinical outcomes.Trial registration number is XJTU2AF2016LSY-04, the registration date is December 2018.

Detection of human papillomavirus infection in laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinoma using droplet digital PCR and its correlation with prognosis.
To use droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR) to detect human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx and hypopharynx (SCCLHP) and to analyze its association with the prognosis of patients with HPV. ⋯ ddPCR is an advanced technology that can accurately diagnose HPV infection with high specificity and sensitivity. The HPV infection rate in SCCLHP was low, and there was no significant difference in the prognosis of SCCLHP.

Appropriateness of diagnosis and antibiotic use in sepsis patients admitted to a tertiary hospital in Indonesia.
To evaluate the diagnostic and antibiotic treatment strategies for patients suspected of sepsis, in a tertiary hospital in Indonesia. This can identify areas for improvement in care provided, and inform diagnostic and antimicrobial stewardship activities within the hospital. ⋯ There is a clear need in encouraging attending physicians to obtain the much-required blood cultures, or cultures from the suspected source of infection before empirical antibiotic treatment is started. This will improve the use of appropriate antibiotic treatment strategies, and contribute to antimicrobial stewardship.

The role of inflammatory parameters in predicting disease recurrence in patients with stage IIA colon cancer with no high-risk features.
We aimed to investigate the roles of inflammatory parameters, including neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte/monocyte ratio (LMR), and C-reactive protein/albumin ratio (CAR), in predicting disease recurrence in patients with stage IIA (T3N0M0) high microsatellite instability and microsatellite-stable colon cancer who had no risk factors associated with relapse. ⋯ In this study, NLR and CAR were found to be independent prognostic markers predicting disease recurrence in patients with stage IIA colon cancer who did not receive adjuvant chemotherapy due to low clinical risk.

Case ReportsDietary management of infants and young children with feeding difficulties and unsatisfactory weight gain using a nutritionally complete hypercaloric infant formula. practical considerations from clinical cases.
A decrease in weight velocity and feeding difficulties in infants may be caused by an inadequate caloric intake and underlying medical conditions. ⋯ Implementing appropriate feeding behaviors, adapted to age and potential comorbidities, is an essential prerequisite for therapeutic management. The use of a nutritionally complete hypercaloric infant formula can be helpful to manage unsatisfactory weight gain and feeding difficulties in infants.
