The role of inflammatory parameters in predicting disease recurrence in patients with stage IIA colon cancer with no high-risk features.
We aimed to investigate the roles of inflammatory parameters, including neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte/monocyte ratio (LMR), and C-reactive protein/albumin ratio (CAR), in predicting disease recurrence in patients with stage IIA (T3N0M0) high microsatellite instability and microsatellite-stable colon cancer who had no risk factors associated with relapse. ⋯ In this study, NLR and CAR were found to be independent prognostic markers predicting disease recurrence in patients with stage IIA colon cancer who did not receive adjuvant chemotherapy due to low clinical risk.

Case ReportsDietary management of infants and young children with feeding difficulties and unsatisfactory weight gain using a nutritionally complete hypercaloric infant formula. practical considerations from clinical cases.
A decrease in weight velocity and feeding difficulties in infants may be caused by an inadequate caloric intake and underlying medical conditions. ⋯ Implementing appropriate feeding behaviors, adapted to age and potential comorbidities, is an essential prerequisite for therapeutic management. The use of a nutritionally complete hypercaloric infant formula can be helpful to manage unsatisfactory weight gain and feeding difficulties in infants.

Venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in high-risk orthopedic and cancer surgery.
Orthopedic surgery and surgery for cancer are major risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE). Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can occur in up to 50% of patients after major orthopedic surgery. The rate of VTE after cancer surgery varies according to the type of surgery, with rates as high as those after orthopedic surgery in certain settings. ⋯ Recent studies have also informed optimal thromboprophylaxis strategies after nonmajor orthopedic surgery. Use of thromboprophylaxis after major cancer surgery for cancer is established and recent evidence has focused on the potential benefits of extended-duration thromboprophylaxis. This review will summarize emerging evidence for thromboprophylaxis after orthopedic and cancer surgery with a view to providing clinicians with concise and actionable guidance for best practice.

Possible role of higher serum level of myoglobin as predictor of worse prognosis in Sars Cov 2 hospitalized patients. A monocentric retrospective study.
Limited data on myoglobin and infectious diseases are available. In this study, we evaluate the potential role of myoglobin in predicting poor outcome in patients with Sars-Cov2 pneumonia. ⋯ Our results suggest that higher serum levels of myoglobin could be a considerable and effective predictor of poor outcomes in COVID-19 patients; a careful follow-up in these patients is strongly suggested. The possibility of enhancing these findings in other cohorts of COVID-19 patients could validate the clinical value of myoglobin as a biomarker for worse prognosis in COVID-19.

The diagnosis of pulmonary embolism (PE) is often made more challenging by the presence of diseases that can mimic thromboembolic disease. There is no specific or sensitive constellation of clinical signs or symptoms that can be used to diagnose PE. ⋯ CT-scan related issues l eading to potential false-positive diagnoses range from inadequate imaging technique, to systemic-pulmonary shunting, to non-thrombotic occlusion of pulmonary arteries by tumor, septic emboli, and emboli of fat, air, and foreign material, as well as vasculitic processes. Careful assessment of the patient and consideration of these potential mimickers is imperative to correct diagnosis of this potentially life-threatening condition.
