A wide range of risk factors, including genetics, play a part in its development. Early detection and treatment are important, as it is often extremely painful.

The presentation of patients with abdominal pain is a common occurrence in emergency departments. Since there are many potential causes of abdominal pain, diagnosis may be challenging. ⋯ This article presents a case study of a patient presenting with right lower quadrant abdominal pain. Assessment, differential diagnosis and management of the patient are discussed.
