To prospectively evaluate accuracy of sympathetic skin response (SSR) for monitoring computed tomography (CT)-guided lumbar sympathetic blocks, with palpable temperature increase in the foot 30 minutes after injection serving as the reference standard. ⋯ SSR can be used to correctly identify needle tip position in lumbar sympathetic blocks 6 and 7 minutes after injection.

To retrospectively determine the value of the nonvisualized appendix at multidetector computed tomography (CT) in patients with acute right lower quadrant pain in whom appendicitis was a consideration. ⋯ In patients with right lower quadrant pain, a nonvisualized appendix at multidetector CT reliably excludes acute appendicitis.

Meta Analysis Comparative Study
US or CT for Diagnosis of Appendicitis in Children and Adults? A Meta-Analysis.
To perform a meta-analysis to evaluate the diagnostic performance of ultrasonography (US) and computed tomography (CT) for the diagnosis of appendicitis in pediatric and adult populations. ⋯ From the diagnostic performance perspective, CT had a significantly higher sensitivity than did US in studies of children and adults; from the safety perspective, however, one should consider the radiation associated with CT, especially in children.

To prospectively evaluate magnetoencephalography (MEG) and functional magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, as compared with intraoperative cortical mapping, for identification of the central sulcus. ⋯ Although both MEG and functional MR imaging can provide useful information for neurosurgical planning, in the present study, MEG proved to be superior for locating the central sulcus. Activation of multiple nonprimary cerebral areas may confound the interpretation of functional MR imaging results.

To retrospectively evaluate the incidence of and risk factors for pneumothorax, pleural effusion, and chest tube placement for pneumothorax after radiofrequency (RF) ablation of lung tumors. ⋯ Pneumothorax and pleural effusion can occur after RF ablation in patients with lung tumors, and chest tube placement for pneumothorax is sometimes required.
