Term neonate prognoses after perinatal asphyxia: contributions of MR imaging, MR spectroscopy, relaxation times, and apparent diffusion coefficients.
To retrospectively evaluate magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, hydrogen 1 (1H) MR spectroscopy, apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), T1, and T2 measurements for prediction of late neurologic outcome in term neonates after severe perinatal asphyxia. ⋯ Conventional MR imaging findings, spectroscopically measured absolute NAA and choline concentrations, and ADCs are complementary tools for predicting the individual outcomes of severely asphyxiated term neonates.

To retrospectively characterize the extent and nature of financial relationships with industry that are disclosed in the abstracts of scientific papers presented at the 2003 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting and to retrospectively assess whether the presence of relationships between researchers and industry was associated with a discussion on the use of products or devices that are not yet approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). ⋯ RSNA abstracts in which authors disclosed corporate financial relationships were twice as likely as those without such disclosures to discuss non-FDA-approved use of a commercial product. This raises the possibility that corporate relationships may influence radiology research.

To retrospectively evaluate interobserver variability between breast radiologists by using terminology of the fourth edition of the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) to categorize lesions on mammograms and sonograms and to retrospectively determine the positive predictive value (PPV) of BI-RADS categories 4a, 4b, and 4c. ⋯ Interobserver agreement with the new BI-RADS terminology is good and validates the US lexicon. Subcategories 4a, 4b, and 4c are useful in predicting the likelihood of malignancy.

To investigate whether analysis of a washout curve of contrast material obtained with serial computed tomography (CT) enables differentiation between hydrostatic pulmonary edema and pulmonary edema caused by increased capillary permeability. ⋯ Dynamic contrast-material enhanced CT can help differentiate between permeability and hydrostatic lung edema in an animal model.

Hepatic metastases: diffusion-weighted sensitivity-encoding versus SPIO-enhanced MR imaging.
To retrospectively compare accuracy of diffusion-weighted (DW) single-shot echo-planar imaging with sensitivity encoding (SENSE) with that of superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO)-enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the evaluation of hepatic metastases due to extrahepatic malignancies. ⋯ Combined reading of DW SENSE images and T2-weighted fast SE and dual-echo T1-weighted FFE MR images showed higher accuracy in the detection of hepatic metastases than did reading of SPIO-enhanced MR images.
