Traumatic pneumothorax detection with thoracic US: correlation with chest radiography and CT--initial experience.
To prospectively compare the accuracy of ultrasonography (US) with that of supine chest radiography in the detection of traumatic pneumothoraces, with computed tomography (CT) as the reference standard. ⋯ In this study, US was more sensitive than supine chest radiography and as sensitive as CT in the detection of traumatic pneumothoraces.

To determine the feasibility of mapping the spatial variation of cartilage T2 relaxation time in vivo in the pediatric knee with a 1.5-T clinical magnetic resonance (MR) imaging system and the manufacturer's body gradient coil. ⋯ T2 spatial variation of patellar hyaline cartilage in children is similar to that of patellar articular cartilage in adults. Mapping of spatial variation of T2 relaxation time of cartilage in the pediatric knee in vivo is feasible with a clinical 1.5-T MR imaging system and a body gradient coil.

To determine which patients suspected of having acute appendicitis benefit from preoperative imaging. ⋯ Women suspected of having appendicitis benefit the most from preoperative CT or US, with a statistically significantly lower negative appendectomy rate than women who undergo no preoperative imaging. Therefore, we propose that preoperative imaging be considered part of the routine evaluation of women suspected of having acute appendicitis.

To investigate whether ferumoxides-enhanced double-echo T2-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) imaging alone can allow differentiation of metastases from benign lesions in the noncirrhotic liver. ⋯ Ferumoxides-enhanced T2-weighted MR images appear useful in differentiating metastases from benign (nonsolid) lesions in the liver.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: enteral nutrition provision--endoscopic or radiologic gastrostomy?
To retrospectively evaluate gastrostomy placement in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) to determine the insertion method of choice. ⋯ Results show PRG to be the method of choice.
