To determine the potential of mesoporphyrin- and gadopentetate dimeglumine-enhanced and functional magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the assessment of the acute effect of nicorandil on ischemic injury of the myocardium. ⋯ Contrast material-enhanced MR imaging has the potential to demonstrate reduction in size of ischemically injured myocardium, whereas functional MR imaging demonstrated the recovery of LV function 24 hours after nicorandil therapy.

Time course of cerebral infarction in the middle cerebral arterial territory: deep watershed versus territorial subtypes on diffusion-weighted MR images.
To examine possible differences between the evolution of cerebral watershed infarction (WI) and that of territorial thromboembolic infarction (TI) by using diffusion-weighted (DW) and T2-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) images and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps. ⋯ The evolution time of ADC is faster for TI than for WI. This difference, which likely originates from the different pathophysiologic and hemodynamic features of the two infarction types, might account for the relatively large range of ADC values reported for the time course of ischemic strokes.

To determine performance characteristics of transvaginal ultrasonography (US) and hysterosonography for diagnosing endometrial abnormality in asymptomatic postmenopausal women with breast cancer receiving tamoxifen. ⋯ In asymptomatic postmenopausal women receiving tamoxifen, 6 mm is the optimal endometrial thickness cutoff for diagnosing endometrial abnormalities with transvaginal US. Further examination with hysterosonography can improve specificity by reducing the high false-positive rate of transvaginal US.

Intracranial arterial aneurysms associated with arteriovenous malformations: endovascular treatment.
To evaluate the results of endovascular treatment of patients having both arteriovenous malformations and aneurysms. ⋯ Findings in this study highlight the importance of recognizing aneurysms in patients with arteriovenous malformations. A strategic focus on the circulatory exclusion of associated aneurysms, especially when such lesions have been responsible for a hemorrhagic episode, is recommended.

To evaluate the usefulness of computed tomography (CT) and ultrasonography (US) for the initial assessment of penetrating abdominal stab wounds in patients who presented to the emergency department without indication for immediate laparotomy. ⋯ Serial US and CT help guide treatment for stable patients with penetrating stab injuries to the abdomen.
