To demonstrate the feasibility and safety of endovascular stent-graft placement for treatment of traumatic aortic aneurysm. ⋯ Transluminal placement of endovascular stent-grafts is a technically feasible method for treatment of traumatic thoracic aortic aneurysm and may be an effective alternative to open-chest surgery.

To assess prospectively the clinical effectiveness of helical computed tomography (CT) in the evaluation of patients with unresolved suspicion for pulmonary embolism (PE). ⋯ Findings at helical CT allowed accurate diagnosis of acute PE in patients with intermediate probability at V-P scintigraphy and without deep venous thrombosis at duplex sonography of the legs.

To compare the accuracy of ultrasonographic (US) and computed tomographic (CT) findings for diagnosis of acute colonic diverticulitis. ⋯ US and CT findings result in similar accuracy for the evaluation of patients suspected of having diverticulitis.

To determine the potential risk of aspiration pneumonitis associated with use of oral contrast material in computed tomography (CT) performed for evaluation of abdominal trauma. ⋯ Use of contrast material for stomach and bowel opacification during CT for evaluation of abdominal trauma appears to be safe. Proper preparation and administration of contrast material and control of the patient's airway are essential to ensure the safety of this procedure.
