[Ischemic postconditioning induces neuroprotection via up-regulation of endogenous antioxidant enzyme activities: experiment with rabbits].
To test the hypothesis that spinal cord protection induced by ischemic postconditioning is mediated by an increase of endogenous antioxidant enzyme activities during reperfusion phase in spinal cord. ⋯ Ischemic postconditioning shows effect against spinal cord ischemic-reperfusion injury mediated, at least partially, by up-regulating the activities of SOD and CAT in spinal cord during early reperfusion phase.

Randomized Controlled Trial[Application of continuous veno-venous hemofiltration in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome].
To investigate the changes of interleukin (IL)-6 serum level in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and the effects of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) on IL-6 level and its clinical significance. ⋯ The elevated serum IL-6 level in ARDS patients seems to be correlated well with the severity of lung injury, and appears to be a good marker to judge the prognosis of the disease combined with APACHEII score. In the early phase of ARDS, CRRT can decrease the high serum level of IL-6, shorten the duration of total mechanical ventilation and ICU stay, and decrease the incidence of VAP. Removal of the circulating proinflammatory cytokines by CRRT may be one of the most vital mechanisms to treat ARDS.

[The role of hydrogen sulfide in acute lung injury during endotoxic shock and its relationship with nitric oxide and carbon monoxide].
To explore the role of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in acute lung injury (ALI) during endotoxic shock (ES) and its relationship with nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO). ⋯ The increase of H(2)S generation participates in the lung tissue injury during ES and this event is related to eNOS activity decrease, iNOS activity increase that causes the production of large amount of NO. H2S up-regulates the HO-1/CO system in the lung tissues during ES, which may be the endogenous compensatory response against the injury.

[Effects of hydrogen sulfide on vascular inflammation in pulmonary hypertension induced by high pulmonary blood flow: experiment with rats].
To investigate the effects of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) on vascular inflammation in pulmonary hypertension induced by high pulmonary blood flow. ⋯ H2S attenuates the development of pulmonary hypertension induced by high pulmonary blood flow through ameliorating pulmonary vascular inflammation. The inhibitory effect of H2S on the pulmonary vascular inflammation involves elevating IkappaBalpha expression, down-regulating NF-kappaB p65 expression and then inhibiting the expression of inflammatory related factors.

Clinical Trial[Ventilatory response at maximal exercise in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease].
To compare the difference in the ventilatory equivalent for carbon dioxide (EqCO(2)) between the patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and normal adults at maximal exercise, and to identify the factors inducing the abnormal change of EqCO(2) in COPD patients. ⋯ Increased V(D)/V(T) may play an important role causing increase in EqCO(2) during exercise in patients with COPD.
