Comparative StudyComparison of the RTS and ISS scores on prediction of survival chances in multiple trauma patients.
Trauma represents the third cause of death after cardio vascular disease and tumors. Also in Iran, road accidents are one of the leading causes of death. Rapid evaluation of trauma severity and prediction of prognosis and mortality rate and probability of survival and rapid treatment of patients is necessary. One of the useful instruments for this is ISS and RTS scoring systems. This study evaluated 70 multi trauma patients in Fatemi trauma center affiliated to Ardabil University of medical science. ⋯ The ISS scoring system performed better than the RTS in predicting of mortality and probability of survival and the length of ICU stay and had high accuracy and can predict patients' outcome better by ISS measuring.

Comparative Study[Comparison of patellar pain after total knee arthroplasty with conventional versus individual femoral rotational alignment].
The aim of the study was to find out whether the frequency and intensity of patellar pain can be affected by individual rotational alignment of the femoral component in total knee arthroplasty, as compared with the standard 3 degrees of external femoral rotation in conventional procedures. ⋯ An individual rotational alignment of the femoral component can significantly reduce the incidence of moderate to severe patellar pain or even need for revision surgery.

[Epidemiological, morphological and clinical aspects of ankle fractures].
The study presents the evaluation and comparison of two groups of patients surgically treated for ankle fractures at our department in 2007 and in 2010, respectively. Our analysis included patients' age, the mechanism of injury, fracture morphology and the method of osteosynthesis. The aim of the comparison was to ascertain recent trends in the development of the selected characteristics. ⋯ The number of ankle fractures treated by primary osteosynthesis grew between 2007 and 2010. There was also an increase in the number of fractured posterior margins of the distal tibia managed by osteosynthesis. The results of the Weber and Lauge-Hansen classifications were in agreement with the relevant literature data. In the majority of cases the ankle fracture occurred as a single trauma.

[The results of ulnar nerve decompression in Guyon's canal syndrome].
The aim of the study was to evaluate a group of patients treated for Guyon's canal syndrome with analysis of the cause for and outcome of surgery. ⋯ Syndrome of Guyon's canal can easily be treated by surgery. As in other compression syndromes, the sooner a surgical decompression is performed, the better outcomes are achieved.

[Surgical treatment for atlantoaxial osteoarthritis (AAOA): a prospective study of twenty-seven patients].
Atlantoaxial osteoarthritis (AAOA) is a clinical syndrome with signs distinctly different from those of degenerative sub - axial spine disease. Its diagnosis may long be delayed, partly because of insufficient knowledge and partly due to difficulties in interpreting both anteroposterior and lateral radiographs. The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the first 27 AAOA patients treated at our department. ⋯ Patients with painful osteoarthritis refractory to conservative treatment will benefit from atlantoaxial fixation and fusion. For the patient, restricted cervical rotation is acceptable in return for pain relief. From the surgical point of view, the risk of complications associated with the operative technique did not exceed a tolerable rate.
