[Short-Term Results of the Carpometacarpal Joint Arthroplasty Using the Ivory® Prosthesis].
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis affects primarily postmenopausal middle-aged and older women. Total joint replacement is one of the surgical treatment options for symptomatic advanced degenerative changes of the carpometacarpal joint. This study aims to evaluate the short-term functional and radiological results of the Ivory ® prosthesis with the minimum followup period of three years after the surgery. ⋯ The complementary study did not confirm that the lengthening of the thumb causes the postoperative development of De Quervain s tenosynovitis. CONCLUSIONS The uncemented first carpometacarpal joint total replacement using the Ivory ® prosthesis brings about very good shortterm functional and radiological results, with no occurrence of early aseptic loosening of the implant. Key words:rhizarthrosis, arthroplasty, carpometacarpal joint prosthesis, uncemented.

[Innovated Judet Ribs Plates - Preclinical Study, First Clinical Experience].
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Based on the experience with using the Judet plates in stabilization of rib fractures an innovated Judet plate was constructed in cooperation with the Development Department of Medin company. During the preclinical part of the project, following the construction of the new Judet plate, a surgical technique was elaborated. Subsequently, the clinical application of rib osteosynthesis with innovated plates was commenced. ⋯ The new technical parameters of the plate, including its weight, new fixation clips, locking screws and instruments are the priorities of the innovated Judet plates. The innovation of Judet plates represents an important step towards the extension of indications for surgical stabilisation of the chest. Key words:innovative Judet plates, preclinical study, osteosynthesis of rib fractures.

[Tear of the Distal Biceps Brachii Tendon - Correlation of Ultrasound and Operative Findings, Surgical Therapy Results].
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY When treating tears of the distal biceps brachii muscle tendon, we repeatedly noticed a difference between the preoperative ultrasound findings and the operative findings. The aim of the study was to retrospectively correlate these findings in order to determine the sensitivity of the ultrasound examination in everyday orthopaedic practice. Moreover, we compared the results and complications of surgical treatment through two operative techniques used at our department. ⋯ For surgical treatment of this injury we prefer the technique using a bone anchor, namely particularly since it is technically easier to perform. The functional results are very good. Key words: distal biceps tendon, elbow, tendon tear, ultrasound, suture anchors.

[Interposition and Suspension Arthroplasty of Carpometacarpal Joint of the Thumb Using the TIE-IN Implant].
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY The aim of the study was to present the surgical technique combining the interposition and suspension arthroplasty using the TIE-IN implant as a treatment option for advanced symptomatic to final stage rhizarthrosis. MATERIAL AND METHODS Since 2015 we have performed the interposition arthroplasty combined with suspension arthroplasty using the TIE-IN implant in 12 patients, mostly indicated for stage IV rhizarthrosis. In two cases stage III rhizarthrosis with concomitant trapezium destruction was present. ⋯ CONCLUSIONS By applying the combination of the interposition and suspension arthroplasty of the carpometacarpal joint of the thumb using the TIE-IN implant we preserve the length of the thumb, its stability, and thus achieve the recovery of adequate thumb range of motion and grip strength. Our conclusions are in correlation with the results obtained at reference centres. Key words:rhizarthrosis, trapeziometacarpal prosthesis, arthroplasty, trapezium implant.

Randomized Controlled Trial[Bacteriuria and Symptomatic Urinary Tract Infections during Antimicrobial Prophylaxis in Patients with Short-Term Urinary Catheters - Prospective Randomised Study in Patients after Joint Replacement Surgery].
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY A very serious complication following joint replacement surgery is periprosthetic joint infection that can be caused by a urinary tract infection. Insertion of an indwelling urinary catheter constitutes a risk factor that may result in urinary tract infections. The aim of this prospective randomised study was to compare the occurrence of significant bacteriuria and symptomatic urinary tract infections during antibiotic prophylaxis at the time of removal of an indwelling urinary catheter by cotrimoxazole in two doses and with no administration of antibiotics. ⋯ Therefore, we recommend asking the patients during the hospital admission process specifically about the urinary infection symptoms. The results of our study show that antibiotic prophylaxis during the removal of indwelling urinary catheters placed for a short-term is unnecessary. Key words: endoprosthesis, urinary catheter, bacteriuria, urinary tract infection.
