[Alterations in fatty acid composition of plasma and erythrocyte lipids in critically ill patients during sepsis].
The overall fatty acid (FA) composition, and especially proportions of n-6 and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in plasma and membrane lipids, greatly impacts on cell and organ functions as well as on many biological processes. ⋯ This effect of sepsis was significantly greater in cholesteryl esters and plasma phospholipids of non-surviving septic patients than in surviving ones. Moreover, non-survivors had lower proportions of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in plasma phospholipids compared to survivors. The significant decrease in proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids in lipids of septic patients in the course of sepsis reflects the severity of their critical state and supports the importance of appropriate nutritional polyunsaturated fatty acids supplementation.

Review[Molecular biology and immunopathogenetic mechanisms of sepsis].
Sepsis, the systemic inflammatory response to infection, causes high mortality in patients in non-coronary units of intensive care. The most important characteristic of sepsis is the interaction between two subjects, the macro and the microorganism, associated with the dysfunction of innate and adaptive immunity. ⋯ The inflammation, characterizing sepsis, does not act as a primary physiological compensatory mechanism and rather oscillates between the phase of hyperinflammatory response and anergy or immunoparalysis. The elucidation of the pathogenesis of sepsis is linked to the understanding of immunopathogenetic mechanisms, which characterize the interaction between the macro and microorganisms.

Randomized Controlled Trial[Tracheal intubation without muscle relaxant--the impact of different sufentanil doses on the quality of intubating conditions: a prospective study].
Following opioid and intravenous anaesthetic, tracheal intubation may be accomplished without any muscle relaxant. In this study, we evaluated the dose requirements for sufentanil with propofol without muscle relaxant administration to obtain clinically acceptable intubation conditions and cardiovascular responses. ⋯ Sufentanil (0.3-0.4 microg x kg(-1)) in combination with propofol (2 mg.kg(-1)) provided clinically acceptable intubating conditions in 93-97% patients.

Historical Article[Ten years after the latest revision International Anatomical Terminology].
Ten years ago, the latest revision of the Latin anatomical nomenclature was approved and published as Terminologia Anatomica (International Anatomical Terminology), and is acknowledged by the organization uniting national anatomical societies--International Federation of Associations of Anatomists. The authors concentrate on new terms included in the nomenclature and on the linguistic changes of terminology. ⋯ The usage of this Latin anatomical nomenclature version is suggested by the International Federation to follow in theoretical and clinical fields of medicine. The authors of the article strongly recommend using the recent revision of the Latin anatomical nomenclature both in the oral and written forms, when educating and publishing.
