Case Reports
Angiographic confirmation of brain death after decompressive craniectomy for posttraumatic brain oedema.
In patients who underwent decompressive craniectomy for brain oedema, angiography for the assessment of brain death can show filling of the intracranial supratentorial arteries. This does not exclude brain death, provided circulatory arrest and absence of venous drainage are present.

We report a case with classic clinical findings and imaging features of Kummell's disease. Kummell's disease is a post-traumatic vertebral body collapse. ⋯ On a conventional radiograph a collapsed vertebral body with a fracture cleft is typical and on MRIT2 weighted images the double line sign is characteristic for Kummell's disease; an increased linear area of hyper-intensity surrounded by an area of low signal. Percutaneous vertebroplasty is an adequate treatment for stabilization of the fracture and pain reduction in patients with Kummell's disease.

A vein of Galen aneurysmal malformation represents an arteriovenous fistula draining in a dilated precursor of the vein of Galen. We report a case of an incidentally detected large aneurysmal malformation of the vein of Galen in a 25-year-old man. ⋯ This patient had no neurological complaints but the angiography showed, however, a steal phenomenon from the anterior circulation. The lesion was treated with good results by means of endovascular embolization with coils.

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a functional cerebral imaging technique that non-invasively records extracranial magnetic fields generated by the electrical activity of the brain. Magnetic source imaging (MSI) is a combination of MEG and coregistered magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that is increasingly being used in the non-invasive presurgical evaluation of patients with refractory partial epilepsy to localize the magnetic correlate of interictal epileptiform discharges. This paper reviews the basics of MEG and MSI, briefly describes the characteristics of the MEG system installed at the ULB-Hôpital Erasme and then summarises the available data on the contribution of MSI to the presurgical work-up of refractory partial epilepsy.

We describe hereafter a case of idiopathic varicose veins in a patient with pulmonary embolism. To our knowledge, the condition has not been reported yet in the literature and enhances the usefulness of complementing the workup of pulmonary embolism by pelvic examination.
