Prediction of the prognosis of ischemic stroke patients after intravenous thrombolysis using artificial neural networks.
In general, around 80% of all strokes are ischemic. Take caring of the patients who have suffered an ischemic stroke is both expensive and time consuming. It is known that thrombolysis in patients with ischemic stroke can reduce the disability and increase the survival rate, however some patients still have poor outcomes. ⋯ The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy for model 1 were 77.78%, 80.43% and 79.27%, respectively, and 94.44%, 95.65% and 95.12%, respectively, for model 2. Artificial neural networks are used to establish prediction models with good performance to predict thrombolysis outcomes. These models may be able to help physicians to discuss and explain the likely outcomes to patients and their families before thrombolysis treatment.

Comparative StudyPolicy Management Standards Enabling Trustworthy pHealth.
Current paradigm changes for improving safety, quality and efficiency of care processes under massive deployment of information and communication technologies (ICT) place high requirements on privacy and security. These mainly focus on privilege management and access control harmonized in international standards and their further evolution. ⋯ The successfully balloted HL7 labeling specification supports context-sensitive communication and cooperation between different stakeholders and processes with different purposes of use, based on meta-data of information, actors and processes involved. Basics of policy management and practical solutions are discussed.

Online information retrieval systems and health professionals.
The following paper presents a scientific contribution that explores the clinicians' use of online information retrieval systems for their clinical decision making. Particularly, the research focuses on the ability of doctors and nurses in seeking information through MEDLINE and ScienceDirect. ⋯ The results testify that only a small percent of clinicians use the recommended electronic bibliographic databasesand take the right clinical decision to the scenarios. Health professionals have to be educated in information searching and take advantage from the provided literature taking more useful and reliable answers on their clinical questions.

Improving emergency medical dispatching with emphasis on mass-casualty incidents.
Dispatching ambulances is a demanding and stressful task for dispatchers. This is especially true in case of mass-casualty incidents. Therefore, the aim of this work was to investigate if and to what extent the dispatch operation of the Red Cross Salzburg can be optimized on such occasions with a computerized system. ⋯ Consequently, the problem is solved by using the Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search. Evaluation results indicate that the system outperforms a human dispatcher by between 2.5% and 36% within 1 minute of runtime concerning total costs. Moreover, the system's response time in case that a plan has to be updated is less than 1 minute on average.

Development of a tele-anesthesia preoperative clinic to support distant military treatment facilities for the European regional medical command.
Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) provides primary care services for more than 65,000 beneficiaries and specialty care and hospitalization for 245,000 U. S. ⋯ Anesthesia preoperative diagnosis/work was done by telemedicine at the distant, end user site, and significant cost savings and enhanced patient service was accomplished. A novel use of existing technologies was implemented to enhance provider and patient satisfaction and create a sustainable, user friendly system.
