To describe a case of vasitis nodosum causing spontaneous recanalization of the vas deferens. ⋯ Confusion may arise in distinguishing the histological features of vasitis nodosum from those of adenocarcinomatous neoplasia. Although rarely, its growth may cause recanalization of the vas deferens in vasectomized patients.

A study was conducted to analyze the impact of the articles published by Spanish authors in the English language urological journals and those published in Spanish journals in the bibliography referenced in the English language urological literature. ⋯ Spanish authors are not worse off than those of other neighbouring countries in regard to the number of articles published (1.18%) in the three journals analyzed, where most of the articles were chiefly by American or British authors. Spanish publications have no impact in the English-speaking countries, although the number of Spanish publications has been slowly but steadily growing and currently account for 1.21% of the publications worldwide: 41.5% of these are referenced in the Science Citation Index and the Uro-Andrological publications rank 6th (4.2%). Moreover, when Spanish authors are able to publish articles in the English-language journals, they rarely reference Spanish publications. However, in proportion, these have more impact than the Spanish publications. The current trend in the prevalence of the English language in the scientific field is probably the cause of the nonexistent impact outside Spain, where they are hardly-read by the Spanish-speaking communities. The foregoing situation is further assisted by the fact that indexing is also done in the English language. Spanish authors are encouraged to increase the number of Spanish publications referenced, particularly those publishing articles in the foreign journals.

To evaluate the efficacy of complete androgen deprivation in downstaging advanced localized prostate cancer prior to radical prostatectomy. The study evaluated positive margins, prostate volume, PSA and histological changes. ⋯ Neoadjuvant treatment significantly reduces PSA levels and prostate volume. The decrease in PSA levels, however, does not appear to have a direct correlation with the final pathologic stage. Tumor stage changed slightly in patients with T2 tumors and no response was observed in those with T3. Patients receiving neoadjuvant therapy had a slight advantage with respect to positive margins. The histological findings were suggestive of cellular lysis.

The diagnosis of acute pyelonephritis (APN) is based fundamentally on the clinical and bacteriological findings. Radiology is useful in ruling out obstructive causes that often require surgical management. The present study analyzed the role of renal ultrasonography (US) in patients with clinical symptoms, signs and history compatible with APN that have normal plain abdominal x-rays. ⋯ In our series, renal US evaluation indicated surgical treatment in 5.8% of patients with clinical features of APN and a plain abdominal x-ray with no evidence of lithiasis. This incidence is likely to be lower in the outpatient setting. It is difficult to propose a standard approach in the management of these patients. It may therefore be more reasonable to utilize US and IVP in those patients who do not respond to antibiotic therapy.

Herein we describe a case of penile incarceration due to a nut at the base of the penis which was resolved by cutting the metallic object. The literature on penile strangulation describes different foreign bodies and methods of management of constrictive penile band injury.
