The medical care of children with acute renal failure and the necessity of the substituting the renal functions has dramatically modified over the past 15 years. The study has been conducted retrospectively on 35 children diagnosed with acute renal failure (ARF), for analyzing the etiological spectrum, the evolutionary patterns and the influence factors of the ARF evolution. The following parameters have been taken into consideration: ARF etiology, hTA/HTA, oliguria, level of serum creatinine, the type of treatment (renal substitution by hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, or conservative treatment). ⋯ The main death causes were: severe hepatic failure, oncological diseases, severe neurological damage and hemodynamic damages. In conclusion, the ARF prognosis in children is influenced by the comorbidity states. Dialysis has improved the therapeutic results in the currently presented lot, the death causes being extrarenal.

Review[Dewar-Barrington technique original adaptation used in the treatment of acromioclavicular dislocations].
The authors are presenting a method of treatment of acromioclavicular dislocations using the Dewar-Barrington technique modified in an original manner. The originality of the technique consists in the supplementary fixation of the tip of the coracoid process using a "figure-of-eight" loop of wire, placed around the head and the prominent tip of the screw. The advantages due to this modification of the technique are: avoiding of technical difficulties, the absence of complications which could appear after the original Dewar-Barrington procedure, the shorter immobilization period and the earlier beginning of full range of motion of the shoulder.

Review[Imaging in screening and diagnosis of lung cancer].
While the lung cancer is detected, the majority of the patients could not be surgical cured. Thus appears the great necessity of prevention, of a more efficient treatment and the developing of new methods for early detection. ⋯ None of the studies had no prove in decreasing of mortality by screening for lung cancer. The lack of sensitivity of thoracic radiographs and sputum cytology was leading the investigators to use the monoclonal antibodies in detecting the neoplastic changes in sputum, the spiral computerized tomography with low dose of radiations, the autofluorescence bronchoscopy and more recent the positron emission tomography, offering the possibility of reducing mortality by early detection in lung cancer.

Review[Systemic treatment of colorectal cancers--factual standards and perspectives].
Adjuvant therapy has been shown to reduce recurrence and improve survival in patients with stage III colo-rectal cancer (CRC). However, the use of adjuvant therapy is still much debated in stage II disease. Fluorouracil (5-FU) and folinic acid (FA) are currently the standard adjuvant drug combination. ⋯ The oral fluoropyrimidines capecitabine and UFT/FA seem to have a comparable activity to intravenous bolus 5-FU/FA in the first line treatment of metastatic CRC. New agents acting on novel targets are under development. Epidermal growth factors inhibitors, vascular endothelial growth inhibitors, and cyclo-oxygenase 2 inhibitors might play a role in the future in the treatment of CRC.

Case ReportsEndovascular treatment of the traumatic rupture of the aortic isthmus.
The traumatic rupture of the aortic isthmus is a dehiscence of all or part of the aortic wall, occurring as a result of a closed thoracic trauma. Standard surgical technique requires left thoracotomy, aortic cross-clamping and use of the cardiopulmonary by-pass to prevent ischemic complications, in special the neurologic and visceral ones. The endovascular treatment of these lesions is a more simple solution and there are recent reports on the stent-grafting of the isthmic rupture of the thoracic aorta. We report three cases of successful endovascular repair of the aortic isthmic rupture and we discuss the emergency indications, the advantages and the limits of this technique.
