Review[Oxidative stress and antioxidants in the diet in pathological processes at the level of the cardiovascular system].
After a short review of the data on the free radicals occurring in the human body (hydroxyl radical, superoxide, nitric acid, peroxynitrite), the possible effects of these radical upon the cardiovascular system are presented. The preservation of the oxidants-antioxidants balance is highly important for preventing the cardiovascular diseases. Endogenous antioxidants are not 100 per cent effective, reason why for the individuals with atherosclerosis and ischemic heart disease antioxidant supplements (tocopherols, carotenes, vitamin C, selenium) are essential especially during the seasons when diets are deficient in fruits and vegetables.

[Is partial cystectomy a justified intervention in the treatment of bladder tumors?].
The authors present their experience of 122 partial cystectomy cases made on a number of 288 vesical tumors in our clinic, during 5 years (1986-1991) from which 23 are superficial tumors and 99 are infiltrative ones. The treatment of vesical tumors can be done in many ways; this partial cystectomy must be completed with an other therapeutic method: irradiation on chemotherapy in conformity with the anatomo-pathological form, the steady and tumoral grading.

Review[The current pathogenetic aspects of MODS in the sepsis patient].
MODS, a phenomenon observed in many critically ill patients, is the progressive failure of two or more organ system which results from nonspecific systemic responses to abnormal intravascular inflammation. It is triggered by a number of cellular humoral and biochemical mediators (more than 100). This article takes up the role of individual organ system dysfunction in the development of MODS. Cardiopulmonary, renal and hepatic responses to injury and infection and the relation of these responses to the subsequent development of MODS have been the subject of intense investigations; recently the gastrointestinal tract was identified as another target organ in such patients.

[Displaced fractures of the middle third of the forearm in children. The therapeutic considerations].
There been studied 100 cases of fractures of the middle third of both bones of forearm in child for to assess the correctitude of the therapy, based on the analysis of results. The most correct surgical techniques consist of osteosynthesis with Kirschner wire of the both bones, knowing the particularities of the fracture linea in child and the minimal tissues' damages. ⋯ Any displaced fracture of middle third of both bones of forearm, whatever the age of the child would be orthopedically reduced, before performing the surgical therapy. The unstable osteosynthesis such as simple screw "osteosynthesis" with wire or thread are contraindicated.

[Postoperative and posttraumatic meningitis. Comments on 87 cases].
Iatrogenic and traumatic cerebromeningitis infections are increasing in frequency in the last two decades. Retrospective analysis of 87 patients iatrogenic and traumatic bacterial meningitis were admitted in the Clinic of Infectious Diseases from Iaşi between 1, 01, 1990-31, 12, 1994. Head trauma, lumbar punctures and iatrogenic meningitis infections were the causes cerebromeningitis infections. ⋯ Predominant pathogens were gram-negative bacteria and Staphylococcus in iatrogenic meningitis and gram-positive bacteria (S. pneumoniae) in traumatic meningitis. The treatment was based on the use penicillin G + chloramphenicol, 3rd generation cephalosporins and sometimes 2nd generation quinolones. Ten of the 87 patients with iatrogenic and traumatic cerebromeningitis infections died (10.3%).
