Clinical Trial[A pilot study of the reduced effects of adverse events caused by oral morphine and oxycodone after rotating to fentanyl patch in patients with metastatic breast cancer].
It has been confirmed by several clinical trials that the fentanyl patch causes less adverse events than sustained-release oral morphine, and after rotation. However, there has been no evidence comparing the fentanyl patch with controlled-release oral oxycodone in terms of adverse events. ⋯ This study suggested that the fentanyl patch can reduce adverse events caused by sustained-release oral morphine as well as controlled-release oral oxycodone.

Review[Radiological evaluation of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma].
Curative resection is one of the key treatments that influences the survival of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma patients. For curative resection, and to avoid unnecessary resection, it is important to diagnose and find the stage of pancreatic carcinoma correctly. ⋯ In this article, we reviewed the effective CTprotocols for detecting pancreatic carcinoma and the CTimaging findings of pancreatic carcinoma that will effect the resectability of the tumor. We also reviewed advantages and disadvantages of other imaging modalities, and imaging findings of some pancreatic carcinomas other than ductal adenocarcinoma.

Clinical Trial[Three-day-type transdermal fentanyl patch conversion by rapid titration method with short-acting oral oxycodone for cancer pain].
This study compared the efficacy and safety of a 3-day-type transdermal fentanyl patch conversion by the rapid titration method to short-acting oral oxycodone for cancer pain. We evaluated seven hospitalized cancer patients who had moderate to severe cancer pain. Pain intensity was rated using an 11-point(0-10)numerical rating scale(NRS). ⋯ All 7 patients reported mild levels(NRS≤2)of cancer pain for 2 days. No serious side effects were reported. The 3-day-type transdermal fentanyl patch conversion by the rapid titration method with short-acting oral oxycodone can be accomplished safely and effectively for patients with moderate cancer pain.

Case Reports[Medical treatment including pregabalin and radiation therapy provided remarkable relief for neuropathic pain by brachial plexus invasion in a patient with esophageal cancer].
This paper presents the case of a man in his 60's with advanced esophageal cancer after the first course of 5-FU/CDDP therapy during follow-up visit, who had pain and numbness from right scapula to upper arm. MRI revealed bone metastasis in the first thoracic vertebra and lymph node metastasis to be diagnosed as neuropathic pain by brachial plexus invasion. Radiation therapy and medical treatment with lornoxicam and controlled-release oxycodone started. ⋯ The patient underwent the second course of 5-FU/CDDP therapy without the pain. In the present case, the combined therapy of medical treatment and radiation therapy provided complete relief of the neuropathic pain. We conclude that it is an option to select pregabalin as effective agent for neuropathic pain in medical treatment.
