Clinical Trial Controlled Clinical Trial[Clinical evaluation of granisetron hydrochloride against nausea and vomiting induced by anticancer drugs for gynecological malignant tumors].
We, in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Kansai Medical College, conducted an evaluation of the usefulness and safety of granisetron hydrochloride used for nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy in patients with gynecological malignant tumors, with an additional study of the efficacy of different regimens. The subjects were 9 patients in whom 16 courses of CAP therapy were given (group A) and 13 patients in whom 24 courses of CAP therapy were given (group B). Granisetron hydrochloride 3 mg/body was administered by intravenous drip in the two groups before chemotherapy. ⋯ In different regimens, the efficacy was 93.8% in group A and 87.5% in group B. These results indicated clinically high usefulness in both groups. No side effects related to granisetron hydrochloride were found in this study.

In order to analyze the economics of home care, we calculated the revenue and expenditures of both hospitalization and home care in a private hospital. The home care expenses were about 44.7% of the institutional care expenses. It became clear that home care saved medical expenses. ⋯ If we support home care of cancer patients alone, it would be an excessive burden on them, because patients are too few at present to organize and keep a team. As a private hospital, we support home care regardless of disease. However, medical economic expenses as a total turned out to be about 17% short of the necessary expenses.

Review[Myeloablative chemotherapy with autologous bone marrow and/or peripheral blood stem cell transplantation in children with high-risk solid tumor].
Autologous bone marrow transplantation (ABMT) and peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT) are increasingly used to support high-dose chemotherapy for solid tumors of childhood. In this review we described practical aspects of myeloablative chemotherapy rescued by ABMT, PBSCT or combination of ABMT and PBSCT for the treatment of children with high-risk solid tumor, involving our experiences in 15 cases. Indication, method of harvesting bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cells, cryopreservation, transplantation, selection of anti-neoplastic agents for preconditioning, nutritional and G-CSF support, engraftment and outcomes for prognosis were discussed. ⋯ It is noteworthy that relapses can occur as distant metastasis considerable years after complete clinical remission. This may be largely contributed by contaminated malignant cells in both harvested bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cells. There is no significant difference between the relapse rates after ABMT and PBSCT.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Comparison of granisetron alone and granisetron plus dexamethasone or hydroxyzine hydrochloride for the prevention of nausea and vomiting during chemotherapy including cisplatin].
The comparative study among granisetron alone and granisetron combined with hydroxyzine hydrochloride or dexamethasone was undertaken for the prevention of nausea and vomiting during chemotherapy including cisplatin in patients with advanced head and neck carcinomas. The results indicated that the combination antiemetic therapies were more effective than granisetron alone for acute nausea and vomiting, whereas a significant difference was not observed among these three groups in the acute adverse effects. Otherwhile, there were statistically significant improvements in the prevention of delayed nausea and vomiting for patients receiving granisetron combined with the other antiemetic drugs, especially the combination antiemetic therapy with dexamethasone. These results confirm the antiemetic activity of granisetron in acute nausea and vomiting induced by cisplatin and show that it has an additive effect in combination with dexamethasone.

Clinical Trial[Outcomes of effective treatment of cases of metastatic liver tumors by intra-arterial infusion chemotherapy].
We studied the prognoses of unresectable liver tumors, including 31 colorectal cancers and 10 gastric cancers treated by intra-arterial infusion chemotherapy using an implantable reservoir. Adriamycin, epirubicin, or cisplatin were administered intermittently early on. ⋯ But in many patients, hepatic and other organ recurrences were observed. We need to try many other treatments.
