Review[Development of practicality of EEG-based brain-computer interface].
Brain-computer interface (BCI) is a system that can create direct connection between brain activity and external devices. In the past 20 years, important' achievements of research on BCI have been made. ⋯ Through the discussions on the applications of DSP in BCI system, in signal preprocessing and in algorithm optimization, the high lights in real-time research are pointed out. In the discussions about the way to produce EEG signals in BCI, the researchers suggested that the imaging movement be the most ideal way in that it will reduce the discomfort in stimulation by application of the virtual reality technology in BCI system, thus it will be conducive to improvement in the performance of BCI system.

[Spine disc MR image analysis using improved independent component analysis based active appearance model and Markov random field].
As there are not many research reports on segmentation and quantitative analysis of soft tissues in lumbar medical images, this paper presents an algorithm for segmenting and quantitatively analyzing discs in lumbar Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Vertebrae are first segmented using improved Independent component analysis based active appearance model (ICA-AAM), and lumbar curve is obtained with Minimum Description Length (MDL); based on these results, fast and unsupervised Markov Random Field (MRF) disc segmentation combining disc imaging features and intensity profile is further achieved; finally, disc herniation is quantitatively evaluated. The experiment proves that the proposed algorithm is fast and effective, thus providing doctors with aid in diagnosing and curing lumbar disc herniation.

[The design of circuit for detecting multi-physiological signals].
In this paper is presented the design of detection circuit and single chip acquisition circuit for heart sound, blood pressure and pulse wave. The multi-physiological signals from single chip are synthesized and processed by master computer. ⋯ The three physiological signals are fused to calculate the artery stiffness index by time relation of multi-physiological signals. The experiment shows that the circuit is reliable and effective so that it can be used for human vessel function evaluation.

Epigenetic modifications, including DNA methylation, histone modifications, RNA epigenetics and nucleosome remodeling, are important for gene transcription, but such modifications do not change the coding sequence of the gene. Although these events are heritable, they are potentially reversible, thus opening up opportunities for the therapy of cancer. ⋯ In this review, we summarized the research progress of epigenetic gene regulation and the proteins which could read epigenetic codes. And the relationship between epigenetics and cancer was discussed comprehensively.

[Effect of body mass index on bone mass of lumbar spine of male patients with ostealgia and arthralgia but without osteoporosis].
For the purpose of identifying the effect of body mass index on bone mineral density, an investigation was made in regard to the relationship between body mass index (BMI), bone mineral density (BMD) and bone mineral content (BMC) of lumbar vertebrals of men without osteoporosis. 838 male patients were diagnosed and treated in West China Hospital of Sichuan University because of ostealgia and arthralgia from Aug. 2003 to Dec. 2005. They were examined by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, their L2-L4 bone mineral density being < -2.5SD. Then they were graded by body mass index (Kg/m2) [1st group BMI > or =23, 454 cases (Group A BMI > or = 29, 46 cases; Group B 25 < or = BMI < 28.9, 201 cases; Group C 23 < or = BMI < 24, 9193 cases); 2nd group 18.5 < BMI < 22.9, 311 cases; 3rd group BMI < or = 18.5, 68 cases]. ⋯ The average BMD of lumbar spine decreases when BMI increases in males without osteoporosis. When obesity is more obvious, the decrease in average BMD of lumbar spine bone is more evidently decreased. The decrease of BMD, BMC and total BMC in L3 and L may be greater than that in L2.
