Comprehensive profiling of actionable mutations in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is vital to guide targeted therapy, thereby improving the survival rate of patients. Despite the high incidence and mortality rate of NSCLC in Vietnam, the actionable mutation profiles of Vietnamese patients have not been thoroughly examined. Here, we employed massively parallel sequencing to identify alterations in major driver genes (EGFR, KRAS, NRAS, BRAF, ALK and ROS1) in 350 Vietnamese NSCLC patients. ⋯ We found that KRAS mutations were more commonly detected in male patients while EGFR mutations was more frequently found in female. Moreover, younger patients (<61 years) had higher genetic rearrangements in ALK or ROS1. In conclusions, our study revealed mutation profiles of 6 driver genes in the largest cohort of NSCLC patients in Vietnam to date, highlighting significant differences in mutation prevalence to other cohorts.

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is proposed to be effective in reducing pain and improving functional outcome in chronic plantar fasciitis. However, no long-term reports exist on the changes in plantar fascia (PF) elasticity after ESWT. We aimed to evaluate the changes in PF stiffness in patients with plantar fasciitis undergoing ESWT. ⋯ The VAS of heel pain, PF thickness, and PF hue values at pre-ESWT, and 1-week, 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month evaluations after ESWT were 62.4 ± 4.2, 49.3 ± 5.8, 38.3 ± 5.7, 27.9 ± 5.3, 18.9 ± 4.7, and 13.2 ± 3.0 (p < 0.01 in all measurements post ESWT versus pre-ESWT); 5.57 ± 0.22 mm, 5.64 ± 0.18 mm, 5.45 ± 0.24 mm, 5.37 ± 0.20 mm, 5.08 ± 0.20 mm, and 4.62 ± 0.15 mm (p < 0.01 at 6-month; otherwise p > 0.05); and 24.5 ± 2.4, 35.2 ± 3.1, 31.0 ± 4.1, 30.5 ± 3.9, 21.4 ± 2.1, and 15.9 ± 1.6 (p < 0.01 at 1-week and 6-month; otherwise p > 0.05), respectively. In conclusion, the heel pain intensity and PF thickness reduced gradually over 12 months after ESWT. The PF stiffness decreased during the first week and increased thereafter; at the 12-month follow-up, stiffness was more than at pre-ESWT.

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is maternally transmitted in animals and therefore, individuals are expected to have a single mtDNA haplotype (homoplasmy). Yet, heteroplasmic individuals have been observed in a large number of animal species. Heteroplasmy may emerge as a result of somatic mtDNA mutations, paternal leakage during fertilization or be inherited from a heteroplasmic mother. ⋯ In this study we examined heteroplasmy in progeny from heterospecific crosses of Drosophila for two consecutive generations. We studied the generation of heteroplasmy from paternal leakage and the maternal transmission of heteroplasmy. Our data reveal non-random patterns in the emergence and transmission of heteroplasmy and suggest that heteroplasmy depends on the family of origin.

Multicenter Study Observational Study
Clinical factors influencing the impact of cluster headache from a prospective multicenter study.
Although many patients with cluster headaches (CH) are disabled by their condition, few studies have examined this in detail. This cross-sectional, multicenter observational study prospectively collected demographic and clinical questionnaire data from 224 consecutive patients with CH. We assessed headache impact using the six-item Headache Impact Test (HIT-6) and evaluated the factors associated with the impact of CH. ⋯ The anxiety (OR = 1.19, 95% CI: 1.08-1.31, p = 0.006), greater pain intensity (OR = 1.06, 95% CI: 1.02-1.10, p = 0.002), and age (OR = 0.99, 95% CI: 0.99-1.00, p = 0.008) were significant predictors for a severe impact of CH patients. According to the HIT-6 results, most of the CH patients were significantly affected by CH. As well as pain intensity, anxiety and age modulated CH's impact on their lives.

Nitrous oxide, the least potent inhalation anesthetic, is widely used for conscious sedation. Recently, it has been reported that the occurrence of anesthetic-induced loss of consciousness decreases the interconnection between brain regions, resulting in brain network changes. However, few studies have investigated these changes in conscious sedation using nitrous oxide. ⋯ Change in 1/f dynamics indicates that changes in brain network systems occur during nitrous oxide administration. Changes in network parameters imply that nitrous oxide interferes with the efficiency of information integration in the frequency bands important for cognitive processes and attention tasks. Alteration of brain network during nitrous oxide administration may be associated to the sedative mechanism of nitrous oxide.
