Case ReportsGastroparesis associated to isoniazid. First description.
Isoniazid, a central compound in the treatment of active or latent tuberculosis, is associated with various adverse reactions, including hepatitis and polyneuropathy. The latter is due to functional pyridoxine depletion and can be avoided by appropriate doses and supplementation with pyridoxine. We present the case of a patient with several previous treatment abandonments for active pulmonary tuberculosis who evolved with late postprandial vomiting due to gastroparesis documented by nuclear medicine gastric emptying tests after a new treatment onset. ⋯ The association of gastroparesis with isoniazid was considered definitive when applying at least two causality protocols. Gastroparesis associated with isoniazid should be added to the list of adverse effects associated with this drug, even in patients receiving pyridoxine supplementation. Its recognition is initially clinical, can be confirmed with nuclear medicine studies, and affects the eradication of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Case Reports[Solitary pulmonary nodule as an unusual presentation of infection by Mycobacterium abscessus. Report of a clinical case].
Nontuberculous mycobacteria are a ubiquitous species of bacteria that can produce chronic pulmonary infectious disease in humans. The clinical manifestations are diverse, from an indolent solitary pulmonary nodule up to fibrocavitary disease which carries a poor prognosis. The presentation as a solitary pulmonary nodule has been described in slowly growing mycobacteria, mainly Mycobacterium avium complex and Mycobacterium kansasii. In the following clinical case, we report an infection by a nontuberculous mycobacteria presenting as a solitary pulmonary nodule caused by Mycobacterium abscessus and its outcomes after surgical resection.

[Epidemiology and Outcomes of Soft Tissue Sarcomas: Insights from a Decade of Head and Neck Surgery at Sótero del Río Hospital, Santiago, Chile].
Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) are rare malignant tumors of mesenchymal origin. They are associated with genetic and environmental risk factors. Their clinical manifestations are nonspecific, requiring a high level of suspicion. The first-line treatment is surgical. Positive margins are the only independent predictor of local recurrence and worse survival rates. Strict follow-up is recommended due to its high recurrence rate. ⋯ STS is an infrequent pathology. This study corresponds to the first retrospective research on STS in Chile. We require establishing a specialized multidisciplinary team to optimize the management and follow-up of STS patients.
