Forensic nursing is a new nursing specialty that provides forensic nursing service to domestic violence victims and offenders. Development of the role of forensic nurses has become urgent and necessary. ⋯ This article highlights the significance of forensic nursing in Taiwan in the future in terms of its origin, definitions, models, roles and functions, training and education, and previous studies. Through cooperation among academia, government, industry, and law enforcement agencies, it is expected that forensic nursing will be a positive and important area of expansion for professional nursing.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
[A comparison of the efficacy of different wound dressing management techniques in preventing pressure ulcers].
Although high-technology wound dressings are widely used in clinical care worldwide, no evidence or discussions have been published regarding the efficacy of these dressings in preventing pressure ulcers. ⋯ It is recommended that patients in high-risk groups in clinical settings adopt strategies including repositioning and regular visual skin examinations. Also, hydrocolloid or foam dressings may be used as appropriate to prevent sacral pressure ulcers.

The role of "mother" is understood and represented differently by people from different cultures. In traditional Taiwanese society, mothers demonstrate their existence value by giving birth to and raising sons able to continue her husband's familial line. Sons bear the patriarchal name and care for their parents in old age. ⋯ Nurses have a critical role to play in giving encouragement and hope to mothers of children with DMD. Through their own difficult situation, these mothers can also highlight the value and importance of Taiwan's nurses, who work in conditions marked by overloading, high stress, and under-appreciation. Caring for women in critical need of empathy and support help nurses realize their own positive capacity to empower sufferers.

Central venous catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI) is an important indicator of care quality. The average CRBSI rate in our unit was 1.027% in 2009. Causes of infection included inadequate CRBSI prevention practices and outdated standard procedures. ⋯ This project effectively reduced CRBSI. We want to share this experience to help other hospitals and units improve critical care quality and reduce healthcare costs.

High-fidelity patient simulation teaching represents one of the most important innovations in healthcare education in the past two decades. In Taiwan, many medical centers and medical colleges now have clinical skill centers equipped with a high-fidelity patient simulator. ⋯ High-fidelity simulation teaching is an integrated teaching strategy that is continuing to receive greater attention. This article describes the historical development of high-fidelity patient simulation teaching, its current status, and applications in nursing education as a reference for nursing educators.
