Case Reports
Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy with pseudo-myocardial infarction pattern. A case report.
A 60-year-old woman with mild hypertension and presumed ischaemic heart disease was followed up over a very long period on account of angina pectoris. Acute myocardial infarction (MI) was suspected on the basis of the history, ECG findings and serum enzyme values, but disproved by radioisotope investigation. ⋯ Cardiac catheterization excluded previous MI and coronary artery disease. A further interesting feature was the development of congestive cardiac failure, which necessitated modification of her drug therapy).

Case Reports
[Computed tomographic proof of intracranial air bubbles after chest trauma. A case report].
A pulmonary bronchovenous fistula is postulated as the possible cause of cerebral air embolism in a case of left-sided hemiplegia after penetrating chest trauma. The possible mechanisms underlying the clinical picture, the consequences of cerebral air embolism and the management are briefly described.

Comparative Study Clinical Trial Controlled Clinical Trial
Comparison between atracurium and alcuronium for muscle relaxation during laparoscopy.
Atracurium 0.3 mg/kg was compared with alcuronium 0.25 mg/kg as the sole muscle relaxant for tracheal intubation and abdominal relaxation for gynaecological laparoscopy in 46 patients during nitrous oxide, oxygen and halothane anaesthesia. Speed of onset, intubation conditions, effect on blood pressure and pulse rate, and ease of reversal were compared. ⋯ Although alcuronium provided good muscle relaxation, it is not suitable for short procedures because of difficulty in reversing its action. Atracurium allowed earlier and more complete reversal of neuromuscular block.

Comparative Study
A new povidone-iodine cream for the treatment of burns. Comparison with a standard topical regimen.
A remarkable improvement in the rate of burn healing has been achieved with a mixture of povidone-iodine ointment (Betadine) and malic, benzoic and salicylic acids (MBS) (Aserbine). A study was undertaken to compare the effects of a new povidone-iodine formulation (Betadine cream) with and without MBS with povidone-iodine ointment plus MBS. All preparations were easy to apply and were readily removed, causing only mild discomfort on application in the majority of cases. ⋯ This applied to both superficial and deep burns. No skin sensitivity reactions were reported with any of the preparations. The addition of MBS to povidone-iodine cream did not produce as significant an improvement in results as its addition to povidone-iodine ointment.
