The purpose of this study was to investigate the patient population and outcomes of synovial sarcoma at a single institution. ⋯ Nonextremity disease and large size of tumor at presentation may have contributed to the disparity in institutional outcomes from the national averages. The advanced presentation of synovial sarcoma remains a significant challenge in improving patient survival.

Epidemiology, Clinical Presentation, and Seasonal Variation in the Diagnosis of Children with Eosinophilic Esophagitis in Oklahoma.
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is characterized by upper gastrointestinal tract symptoms in association with esophageal mucosal biopsy specimens containing ≥15 intraepithelial eosinophils per high-power field. The etiology of EoE remains unclear, but an immunologic response to various foods and aeroallergens has been implicated. Seasonal variation has been reported in the diagnosis of EoE. The epidemiology and seasonal variation of EoE has never been studied in Oklahoma. The aim of this retrospective study was to determine epidemiology, clinical presentation, and seasonal variation of EoE in children seen from 2008 to 2015 at The Children's Hospital at Oklahoma University Medical Center (OUMC). ⋯ Our data demonstrate that there is a seasonal variation in the diagnosis of EoE, with more cases diagnosed in the spring months. These findings relate to the increase in aeroallergens and pollen distribution during the spring months in Oklahoma.

Procedural Anxiety, Pain Catastrophizing, and Procedure-Related Pain during EGD and Colonoscopy.
Although sedatives and analgesic drugs defuse anxiety and relieve pain, digestive endoscopy still is uncomfortable and painful for some patients. Identifying patients who tolerate digestive endoscopy less well remains difficult. The present study evaluated the relations between procedural anxiety, catastrophizing thoughts, and pain, using a prospective design and multimodal assessments of pain. ⋯ This study shows that catastrophizing thoughts account for between-subject differences in endoscopy pain. Rumination and helplessness but not magnification explain how procedural anxiety may evolve in a painful endoscopy experience. To the extent that one can address catastrophizing thoughts, endoscopy pain can be mitigated, especially for patients who are difficult to sedate.

Uterine Corpus Malignancies in Appalachia Kentucky: Incidence, Survival, and Related Health Disparities.
Uterine cancer is the nation's most common gynecologic malignancy, but it is understudied in the geographically and socioeconomically diverse state of Kentucky (KY). Our aim was to assess the frequency, distribution, and survival of uterine corpus malignancies in KY, and specifically the differences between Appalachia (AP) and non-Appalachia (NAP) KY. ⋯ Type I and mixed uterine corpus cancers have a higher age-adjusted incidence and a younger age at diagnosis in AP compared with NAP KY.
