Observational StudyCOVID-19 in a Mississippi Community Hospital.
Mississippi recorded the first case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on March 11, 2020. This report describes the initial COVID-19 experience of the single healthcare system serving Jackson County, Mississippi. The intent of this retrospective review of COVID-19 hospitalized patients was to identify any characteristics or interventions amenable to improving care management and clinical outcomes for patients within our community hospital. ⋯ This report describes a community hospital experience with COVID-19. Patient outcome was comparable to that reported at larger centers. Obesity was a major comorbidity and correlated with adverse outcomes. Amidst the initial wave of COVID-19 with high demand for inpatient treatment, it is reassuring that appropriate care can be provided in a community health system.

Discharge Summary Completion Timeliness and the Association of 30-Day Readmission.
This study aimed to review the association between timeliness to completion of a discharge summary to 30-day readmission to the hospital. ⋯ This study found that discharge summaries completed >7 days have an increased association with 30-day readmission rate.

Grit Does Not Predict Burnout among First-Year Internal Medicine Residents.
Grit, defined as passion and perseverance for long-term goals, has been associated with the avoidance of burnout among residents in a number of specialties. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between grit and burnout among first-year Internal Medicine residents. ⋯ In this single-center study, grit was not associated with burnout among first-year Internal Medicine residents; however, our findings highlight the value of baseline burnout scores in helping to identify first-year residents who may be at higher risk of later burnout.
