Osteosynthesis with long volar locking plates for metaphyseal-diaphyseal fractures of the distal radius.
Metaphyseal-diaphyseal fractures of the distal radius are a major treatment dilemma and orthopaedic surgeons have to pay due consideration to restoration of anatomy of distal radius together with rotation of the radial shaft and maintenance of radial bow and interosseous space. We performed this study to evaluate the clinic-radiological outcome of metaphyseal-diaphyseal fractures of the distal radius treated with long volar locking plates. ⋯ Volar locking plate fixation for metaphyseal-diaphyseal fractures of distal radius is associated with excellent to good functional outcome, early rehabilitation and minimal complications.

Outcome of open reduction and internal fixation of intraarticular calcaneal fracture fixed with locking calcaneal plate.
Debate continues regarding the management of calcaneal fractures, between open reduction and internal fixation and closed treatment. Hence we aim at evaluating the radiological and functional outcomes of open reduction and internal fixation in displaced joint depression type of calcaneal fractures fixed with locking calcaneal plate. ⋯ Open reduction and internal fixation with locking calcaneal plate gives sound functional outcome, i.e. restoring anatomically reconstruction of height, width, Bohler's and Gissiane's angles of the calcaneum, and allowing early mobilization.

Case ReportsAcute femoral artery pseudoaneurysm due to lesser trochanter fragment: an unusual complication of an intertrochanteric fracture.
False aneurysm of the femoral artery is a rare complication of intertrochanteric fracture. Most of these situations are due to iatrogenic trauma or the trauma itself and are rarely caused by dislocated bone fragments. Here we report a case of a 72-year-old man who presented acutely with a pseudoaneurysm of the superficial femoral artery from the spike of a lesser trochanter fragment. ⋯ The fracture was united at 10 weeks. At one-year's follow-up, there were no graft-related complications. This case illustrates that an intertrochanteric fracture with a displaced lesser trochanter fragment can present acutely with bleeding and a pseudoaneurysm of the femoral artery.

Case ReportsOrthopaedic surgeon's nightmare: iatrogenic fractures of talus and medial malleolus following tibial nailing.
Intramedullary interlocking nailing is the gold standard for treatment of tibial shaft fractures. The growing use of intramedullary nailing has resulted in an increased number of tibial nailing in daily clinical practice. Despite adequate surgeon experience, tibial nailing is not without complications if proper techniques are not followed. ⋯ It is believed to be caused by forceful hammering of insertion zig with foot dorsiflexed. To the best of our knowledge, no such case has been reported in the literature. It is possible to reduce the risk of this complication by adoption of preventive measures.

Local effect of celecoxib on peripheral nerve repair combined with silicone tubulization in rat.
To assess local effect of celecoxib on nerve regeneration in a rat sciatic nerve transection model. ⋯ Response to local treatment of celecoxib demonstrates that it influences and improves functional recovery of peripheral nerve regeneration.
