To compare the effectiveness and safety of anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) with posterior cervical foraminotomy (PCF) for patients diagnosed with single-level unilateral cervical radiculopathy. ⋯ Among patients with single-level unilateral cervical radiculopathy, PCF has comparable effectiveness and complication rate compared with ACDF. It seems that PCF is a sufficient alternative procedure with shorter operation time, shorter length of hospital stay, and less total hospital cost for the treatment of cervical radiculopathy. However, the higher reoperation rate following PCF should be also taken into consideration.

Surgical treatment of acetabular fractures involving a quadrilateral plate is a challenge to orthopedic surgeons. We have developed a novel fixation technique using a specially shaped reconstruction plate combined with several buttress screws of a quadrilateral plate which was also called a dynamic anterior plate-screw system for quadrilateral plate (DAPSQ) to treat acetabular fractures involving quadrilateral plate since 2005 (RP group). And the long-term follow-up results have confirmed the effectiveness and safety of this technique. After 2016, standardized titanium plate (STP group) of DAPSQ have been designed and applied. The aim of the study was to compare the clinical efficacy of anatomical plate and the reconstruction plate of DAPSQ in the treatment of quadrilateral plate fractures. ⋯ The fixation of standardized titanium plate in quadrilateral plate fractures showed a similar result to the reconstruction plate, in terms of quality of reduction and functional outcome. The standardized titanium plate of DAPSQ has the advantages of a short operation time, less intraoperative bleeding, and blood transfusion, and it is worth further promotion and research.

Vertebral mobility is a valuable indicator for predicting and determining bone union in osteoporotic vertebral fractures: a conventional observation study.
Conservative treatments for osteoporotic vertebral fractures (OVFs) have not been standardized, and criteria for determining bone union have not been established. To determine bone union, we have adopted a cutoff value of 1.0 mm for vertebral mobility (V-mobility), defined as the difference in anterior vertebral height (Ha) between lateral radiographs taken in weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing positions. The present study aimed to investigate the usefulness of V-mobility for determining bone union and predicting bone union at 6 months after OVF onset. ⋯ V-mobility in the early stage after OVF can predict bone union at 6 months after OVF and is a useful quantitative indicator for determining bone union.

Midshaft clavicle fractures are one of the most familiar fractures. And, dual small plate fixation has been reported as can minimize hardware-related complications. However, the biomechanical properties of the dual small plate fixation have not yet been thoroughly evaluated. Here, we report the results of a finite element analysis of the biomechanical properties of midshaft clavicle fractures treated with dual small plating and superior and anteroinferior single plate fixation. ⋯ This study demonstrated that larger plate-screw constructs for the treatment of simple are placed clavicular fractures; however, weight-bearing and exorbitant shoulder activity should be avoided after the operation. Therefore, dual plating may provide a viable option for fixing midshaft clavicle fractures and, thus, may be preferred for patients who need early activity.
