[Atloaxoid dislocation in chronic inflammatory rheumatism. Results of 16 occipitoaxoid arthrodeses].
Sixteen cases of spontaneous dislocation of the atlanto-axial joint have been reviewed, fifteen in rheumatoid arthritis and one in ankylosing spondylitis. On four occasions there was some neurological impairment, but in eleven there was only pain and stiffness. The only case of ankylosing spondylitis was operated on after failure of conservative treatment. ⋯ All had satisfactory fusion after grafting from the skull to axis. Six had only a partial reduction of the displacement and united with some displacement of about 5 mm. The results were satisfactory with absence of pain and regression of neurological signs.

[Screwed-plate osteosynthesis and reconstruction of fractures of the calcaneus].
The authors have treated 182 fractures of the calcaneus. Ninety-nine of these were operated on and plated. The results were studied in 75 cases with a follow up of 1 to 6 years. ⋯ This type of operation should be performed in displaced fractures with 2, 3 or 4 fragments. In more comminuted fractures the authors consider that primary arthrodesis is advisable. Conservative treatment is indicated in slightly displaced fractures or when local conditions make operation inadvisable.

Case Reports[Radiation-induced sarcoma of the sixth cervical vertebra (author's transl)].
The authors report the case of a patient who suffered a sarcoma of the sixth cervical vertebra eleven years after a malpighian epithelioma of the pharynx had been treated and healed by local excision and radiotherapy. A radiation-induced sarcoma caused a tetraplegia. Laminectomy and plate fixation resulted in some recovery but the patient died three months later.

[Autotransfusion with acute hemodilution in the surgical treatment of scoliosis (author's transl)].
With the goal to reduce the number and the volume of homologous blood transfusions during surgical treatment of scoliosis and spine deformities, the authors have studied the results of 50 cases treated with immediate acute haemodilutional autotransfusion. In 40 per cent of the case neither per nor post operative homologous blood transfusion was necessary. In addition they have seen a surprising result such as a significant lowering of absolute blood loss during surgery compared to a similar series treated without haemodilutional autotransfusion. Physiopathological principles, precise technique used and limitation of the method are described.

Comparative Study[Combined Kuntscher nailing and screw fixation (author's transl)].
The authors describe a technique of Kuntscher intramedullary nailing combined with screws driven through the bone and the nail above and below the fracture site. This technique gives better stability of the fracture and allows extension of intramedullary nailing to severely comminuted fractures, fractures with loss of bone and to proximal or distal fractures. Risks of rotational instability or shortening are diminished. ⋯ Biomechanical experiments conducted to determine the best position of the screws for optimal locking of the nail are described. The results obtained in one hundred and sixteen cases are analysed. The technique was also used in the treatment of non-union and in the fixation of osteotomies.
