[Fine needle aspiration cytology diagnosis of extramedullary leukemic infiltration].
To assess the diagnostic accuracy of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) in extramedullary leukemic infiltration. ⋯ Accurate cytologic diagnosis of extramedullary leukemic infiltration relies on detailed morphologic assessment as well as correlation with clinical examination and other relevant laboratory findings, especially in patients whose initial symptom being a local mass. Leukemic infiltration, which represents proliferation of primitive cells, should be distinguished from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Morphologic assessment by oil immersion lens and examination of peripheral blood smears is useful in this respect.

[Clinicopathologic features of usual interstitial pneumonia and its differential diagnosis from idiopathic nonspecific interstitial pneumonia].
To investigate the clinicopathologic features of usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) and its differential diagnosis from idiopathic nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (INSIP). ⋯ The distinction between UIP and INSIP is difficult if based on clinical examination alone. HRCT is helpful for differential diagnosis in some difficult cases. Definite diagnosis depends mainly on open lung biopsies. Key histologic features of UIP include heterogeneous appearance with interstitial inflammation, fibroblastic foci, scar formation and honeycomb changes.

[Morphological study of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)].
Seven cases of autopsy from SARS patients are studied to investigate the pathogenesis and the pathologic changes of the major organs. ⋯ Lung is the major organ affected by SARS, demonstrated as diffuse alveolar damage. It is postulated that viral infection induces severe damage of alveolar epithelial and capillary endothelial cells, leads to pulmonary edema, intra-alveolar fibrin deposit, and hyaline membrane formation. Consequently, intra-alveolar organization and alveolar septal fibrosis causes loss of alveolar spaces, eventually, pulmonary fibrosis and atelectasis. The immune system is often affected, and presented as depletion of lymphoid tissue in lymph nodes and spleen. Secondary infection is a common complication, which should be paid close attention in the management of SARS patients.

[A study on the anti-metastatic effects of CD3Ak cells in nude mice].
To investigate whether cancer draining lymph node lymphocytes activated by CD3 McAB in vitro have anti-tumor effects in vivo. ⋯ These results suggest that CD3AK cells appear to be effective in tumor growth inhibition, anti-metastasis and enhancing host immunologic function.

[Loss of alveolar attachments in smoker's lungs and its relation to small airway abnormalities].
The alveolar attachments and small airway abnormalities in the lungs of smokers were measured by computerized imaging to study the relationship between loss of alveolar attachments and small airway abnormalities, the smoker's lungs were divided into three groups: no emphysema (NE), centrilobular emphysema (CLE) and panlobular emphysema (PLE). The distance between normal alveolar attachments (Distance) and percent abnormal alveolar attachments (% Abnormal) in CLE were significantly higher than in NE (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01), and no significant difference in the number of normal alveolar attachments in the 3 groups. ⋯ Distance and % Abnormal correlated significantly with WA and DI, but the correlations were shown only in CLE. We concluded that alveolar attachment destruction in smoker's lungs was closely associated with small airway abnormalities, which indicated the different patterns of emphysema, CLE and PLE, probably have different pathogenesis respectively.
