[Hip joint operation in routine management--complications and their effect on indications-specific symptoms].
The study was conducted in co-operation with a German sickness fund to identify determinants of disease-specific health outcomes after hip surgery in routine health care. ⋯ Patients with postoperative complications obtain lower scores on the Lequesne Index (higher burden of disease) before hip surgery. Their postoperative progress is slower in the short term (-5.6 pts. vs. -8.2 pts) and in the medium term (-6.7 pts. vs. -9.5 pts). Complications after hip surgery have a lasting negative effect on disease-specific health outcomes.

[Surgical peri- and postoperative plexus anesthesia in subacromial decompression of the shoulder].
The aim of the present investigation was to check the peri- and postoperative plexus anesthesia on early functional outcome and postoperative analgetic consumption during subacromialen decompression until the date of discharge. ⋯ The investigation shows that peri- and postoperative plexus anesthesia has no positive influence on the early functional outcome after subacromial decompression of the shoulder.

[Surgical therapy of hemivertebrae scoliosis and kyphosis--a retrospective analysis of 53 cases].
We performed a retrospective analysis of the results of operative treatment of 53 patients with congenital scoliosis (n = 47) or kyphosis (n = 6) due to hemivertebrae. ⋯ Spondylodesis without instrumentation is associated with an unsure prognosis with respect to effects on the progression of the scoliosis, even if it is performed on very young patients. In contrast, spondylodesis with instrumentation can achieve better and longer-lasting corrections of scoliosis even with larger initial curvatures. Scoliosis due to lumbar hemivertebrae is more amenable to surgical correction than thoracic scoliosis due to hemivertebrae.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Effects of elastic lumbar belts on the effect of a muscle training program for patients with chronic back pain].
Aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of elastic lumbar belts on the effect of muscle training for patients with low back pain. ⋯ The effectiveness of the muscle strengthening program for patients with low back pain could be improved significantly by means of the elastic lumbar belt as an applicable therapy instrument in the functional rehabilitation of spinal injuries.

[Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia after elective hip joint replacement with postoperative prevention of thromboembolism with low-molecular-weight heparin].
Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a severe side effect of the prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism with unfractionated heparin. The aim of the present study is to gain more information on the incidence of HIT during prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism with low-molecular-weight heparin in elective hip surgery. ⋯ In patients with elective hip replacement prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism with low molecular-weight heparin was associated with a very low incidence of HIT, and hence screening for HIT antibodies is not required.
