[A case of post-biopsy arterio-venous fistula in a renal allograft].
We report here a case of post-biopsy arterio-venous fistula in a renal allograft which was successfully embolized. Percutaneous needle biopsy of renal allograft is performed when the cause of deteriorating renal function is clinically difficult to diagnose, and the pathological diagnosis obtained by it determines the therapy. ⋯ Arterio-venous fistula is one of the complications after percutaneous needle biopsy of renal allograft. Color-coded ultrasonography is effective to find it, and transarterial embolization should be tried first to treat it.

[Study on prevention of flare-up phenomenon following initial LH-RH analogue administration: combination therapy with diethylstilbestrol].
To eliminate the initial testosterone (T) surge and prevent the risk of flare-up induced by the first administration of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH) analogue, we examined the effectiveness of short-term combination therapy with diethylstilbestrol (DES). Sixteen previously untreated patients with prostate carcinoma (Stage C: 4 cases, Stage D2: 12 cases) were randomly assigned to 4 groups. ⋯ In groups 1, 2 and 4 the level of T decreased during the 7 days of DES therapy, and at 3 days after the first injection of LH-RH analogue increased again. The mean T value in groups 1, 2 and 4 decreased by 33.2 +/- 27.6% (mean +/- SE), 20.5 +/- 20.8%, 13.2 +/- 9.8%, respectively, at the day of the first injection of LH-RH analogue, and increased by 75.2 +/- 21.6%, 70.7 +/- 63.4%, 56.7 +/- 46.4%, respectively, at 3 days after the first injection of LH-RH analogue.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

We present a case of colovesical fistula due to sigmoid colon diverticulitis. A 63-year-old woman was referred to our department with the complaints of dysuria, turbid and foul smelling urine. She was treated twice for acute cystitis at the referral hospitals. ⋯ She underwent partial resection of sigmoid colon with primary anastomosis and partial cystectomy with repair of bladder wall and covered with omentum. Retrograde cytography taken on the 20th post-operative day revealed no leakage of contrast medium. She was asymptomatic at 3 months of follow-up.

[Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy monotherapy for upper urinary tract stones using the Dornier lithotriptor MFL5000].
A total of 345 cases of upper urinary tract stones (188 renal and 157 ureteral stones) were treated by extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) monotherapy using the Dornier lithotriptor MFL5000. Of these cases 294 (85.2%) had stones less than 20 mm in length. A double-J ureteral stent was placed in 40 cases of renal stones and 8 ureteral stones due to large stone burden or failure of in situ ESWL for impacted stones. ⋯ Four cases of impacted ureteral stones underwent ureteroscopic extraction or open ureterolithotomy for fragment removal. ESWL monotherapy using the Dornier MFL5000 is an effective and noninvasive method of treating upper urinary tract stones. Satisfactory fragmentation and clearance can be achieved with multiple sessions even for large or impacted stones, but alternative procedures may be necessary to salvage fragments of impacted stones.

[A case report of spontaneous renal rupture due to arteriosclerosis].
A case of spontaneous renal rupture with subcapsular hematoma was reported. The patient was a 44-year old man complaining of a sudden left flank pain without any recent history of trauma. ⋯ Therefore, left total nephro-uretectomy was performed, and histological examination revealed hemorrhage and infarct due to the severe arteriosclerosis and intestinal nephritis without malignancy. Sixty-three cases of non-traumatic subcapsular renal hematoma reported previously in the Japanese literature are reviewed with some statistical analyses.
