Comparative Study[Analysis of transmission of continuous adventitious lung sounds in asthmatic patients--a comparison with continuous sounds due to bronchial stenosis].
We studied the acoustic features of continuous adventitious lung sounds in asthmatic patients, and analyzed the characteristics of transmission by comparing the continuous sounds in asthmatic patients with those due to bronchial stenosis. The results were as follows. 1) Continuous adventitious lung sounds in patients with bronchial stenosis confirmed by bronchoscopy were well transmitted to the neck over the trachea. ⋯ The origin of the polyphonic tones was unknown, but they were also relatively well transmitted to the neck over the trachea. It was confirmed that the tracheal region is a very important location for auscultating and monitoring asthmatic patients.

Case Reports[A case report of the limited form Wegener's granulomatosis].
The classical from of Wegener's granulomatosis (WG) is a necrotizing granulomatous angiitis that involves the upper and lower airways, and kidneys. A limited form of WG is characterized by pulmonary lesions identical to those of classical form WG without renal involvement. The authors report a case of limited form WG. ⋯ No other organ involvement was found. The pulmonary shadow improved with cyclophosphamide therapy. The patient is now well and without evidence of exacerbation of the disease 18 month after the discharge.

Case Reports[Two cases of hypersensitivity pneumonitis due to contamination of an ultrasonic humidifier].
Two cases of hypersensitivity pneumonitis due to contamination of ultrasonic-humidifier were reported. The first case, a 64-year-old man, developed fever and dyspnea on exertion in January 1986. He was hospitalized for 18 days and received antibiotics for presumptive bacterial pneumonia. ⋯ Examination revealed fine crackles on both lung bases. Chest X-ray film demonstrated diffuse nodular shadows. The TBLB specimen showed lymphocytic alveolitis and bronchiolitis.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Case Reports[Cervical lung hernia in a case of severe chronic asthma and bronchitis].
A case of a bilateral pulmonary hernia of the lungs into the supraclavicular fossae is described. A man, aged 79, with severe chronic asthma and chronic bronchitis due to air pollution, complained of a cervical mass off and on for several years. ⋯ Radiologically this herniation could best be identified on lateral cervical roentgenogram. It is said that cervical lung hernia is a rare condition, but in our experience supraclavicular herniation of the lung is not unusual in cases of severe chronic obstructive lung disease.

[Oxyhemoglobin dissociation curve and 2,3-diphosphoglycerate in chronic hypoxemia].
The measurement of the oxyhemoglobin dissociation curve (ODC) and 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG) in patients with chronic hypoxemia is important from the view point of tissue oxygenation. However, there have been no consistent results that explain the relation among chronic hypoxemia, 2,3-DPG and P50, which is oxygen pressure at an oxygen saturation of 50 percent. ⋯ In conclusion, P50 and 2,3-DPG are affected largely by Hb concentration or blood pH, with or without hypoxemia. However there is a mechanism by which P50 and 2,3-DPG are increased by hypoxemia itself in a group with normal levels of Hb, pH and PaCO2.
