Twenty-seven cases of multiple noncontiguous spinal fracture were reported. The injury located mostly at thoracolumbar levels, and primary injuries occurred in thorax (n = 13, 50%), second injuries occurred in lumbus (n = 14, 53.8%). The cord function of 12 patients were Frankel A, 5 were C and 4 were D; five patients were normal (Frankel E). ⋯ There were 17 followed-up cases. Eight were recovered with Frankel 1 degree, 2 with 2 degree and 4 without change. The importance of correct diagnosis is emphasized and it is recommended that total spine radiography be performed as soon as possible.

[Effect of movement of cervical spine on compressed spinal cord-meningeal complex].
The compression of spinal cord-meningeal complex after the injury of cervical spine was simulated in seven intact fresh adult cadaver spines. In this study, a hole was drilled from the anterior part to the posterior in vertebral body C6 to accommodate a transducer which was pushed into the canal. ⋯ The results showed that the flexion and axial rotation of the cervical spine increased damage stress to the spinal cord under compression. The distribution of the stress on the spinal cord was discussed, and the strict immobilization and keeping the cervical spine in the natural-extension position were recommended for the injury of cervical spine.

The discs of 15 fresh human cadaveric spines (L1-S1) were radiated with Nd: YAG laser energies varying from 1000 to 3000J in 5 groups. The volume ablation rates, changes in intradisc pressure, and changes, in temperature at four important sites around the disc were measured during the laser radiation. ⋯ The increase in temperature of adjacent tissue was very low, not exceeding 3 degrees C. The results of this study provide a basis for the use of lasers in percutaneous lumbar discectomy, and in clinical practice in the future.

[Malignant hyperthermia: preoperative prognosis, prevention and treatment].
Malignant hyperthermia, a inheritant metabolic disease can be induced by some anesthetic agents. The morbid conditions and clinical manifestations in two cases of malignant hyperthermia were studied. ⋯ The main clinical manifestations of malignant hyperthermia include muscular tetanic spasm and abrupt rising of body temperature. Five aspects of early prognosis and prompt treatment are given.

[Super-selective angiography: analysis of angio-architecture and embolization of cerebral arterio-venous malformation].
The angiograms of cerebral arterio-venous malformation (AVM) were analysed through 198 super-selective procedures. The AVM nidus as a whole can be classified as: single supply artery and multi-drainage veins; multi-supply arteries and single drainage vein; multi-supply arteries and multi-drainage veins. Angioarchitecture was divided into five types: terminal supply, penetrating supply, A-V shunt, combined with aneurysm and with anomalous venous structure. Supper-selective angiography was also used for regional functional test and A-V circulation time calculation, as a correct guidance for embolization treatment.
