Review[Prophylaxis for stress ulcer bleeding in the intensive care unit].
The critically ill patient can develop gastric erosions and, on occasion, stress ulcers with severe gastrointestinal bleeding that can be fatal. ⋯ Admittance to the intensive care unit in itself does not justify prophylaxis. PPIs are at least as effective as H2RAs. We should individualize the treatment of each patient in the intensive care unit, determining risk and evaluating the need to begin prophylaxis.

[Peroral endoscopic full and partial-thickness myotomy. A viability study in an animal model].
Peroral endoscopic myotomy has recently been developed and performed on patients with good results. ⋯ The endoscopic myotomy technique is feasible. Endoscopic partial-thickness myotomy was associated with shorter surgery duration and better results during the intraoperative period and the 7-day follow-up.

[Functional dyspepsia and the satiety test: its usefulness in clinical practice].
According to the Rome III Criteria, functional dyspepsia (FD) is classified as postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) and epigastric pain syndrome (EPS). On the other hand, the satiety test (ST) has been used to evaluate gastric accommodation and emptying, distinguishing healthy individuals from those with dyspepsia. ⋯ There was a difference in the ST between healthy individuals and those with dyspepsia, but the ingested volume and caloric intake in the two FD subtypes were similar.

Randomized Controlled Trial[Effectiveness of intercostal nerve block with ropivacaine in analgesia of patients undergoing emergency open cholecystectomy under general anesthesia].
Postoperative pain after open cholecystectomy is associated with reduced respiratory function, longer recovery period before deambulation and oral food intake, and prolonged hospital stay. Intercostal nerve block provides satisfactory analgesia and ropivacaine is the most widely used local anesthetic agent in intercostal nerve block due to its excellent effectiveness, lower cardiovascular toxicity, and longer half-life. ⋯ Intercostal nerve block reduces intraoperative inhalation anesthetic use, immediate postoperative pain, and tramadol intake as rescue analgesic agent in patients undergoing open cholecystectomy.
