Also in Italy, a flourishing evidence confirms the recent spread of vaccine hesitancy movements resulting in approximately 4-7% of the paediatric population not immunised every year against polio and approximately 9-15% against measles in the last few years. The aim of this paper is to describe the reasons of polio and measles missed vaccination in Italy, in the period 2015-2017, and to analyse any potential effect of the 2017 mandatory vaccination law. ⋯ Percentage of missed vaccination showed a remarkable reduction in 2017. This decrease is likely due to the introduction of mandatory vaccination law. In point of fact, "Dissent" decreased for both polio and measles during the study period. While, "Delay" increased during the 3-years. It seems that hesitant parents prefer to postpone vaccinations instead of refusing them. Counselling, parents' empowerment and vaccine education are central to contrast vaccination postponing. Thus, for parents who refuse vaccines ("Dissent"), monitoring the trend is important as well as trying to understand their reasons.

The National Plan for Vaccine Prevention 2017-2019 has expanded the vaccination offer including new vaccines, enlarging the target population and introducing for the first time in Italy a life-course approach to vaccination. A "lifetime immunization schedule" is aimed to reduce the burden and the related costs of vaccine-preventable diseases through effective vaccination programs. However, to counteract the national steady downward trend in the uptake of vaccinations that caused a drop of the vaccination coverage below the 95% threshold to allow herd immunity, it was decided to make 10 vaccinations mandatory by the law 119/2017. ⋯ According to the plan, "an adequate immunization of the healthcare workers is essential for the prevention and control of infections (anti-hepatitis B, anti-influenza, anti-measles-mumps-rubella, anti-varicella, anti-pertussis)". Finally, almost all the vaccinations foreseen by the NPVP are offered free of charge to subjects suffering from specific diseases. These include cardiovascular, respiratory, hepatic, neoplastic, renal and metabolic disorders, in addition to immunosuppression that exposes them to an increased risk of contracting invasive infectious diseases.

Healthcare workers are continuously exposed to the risk of being infected by influenza viruses during their work, thus representing a threat especially for fragile patients. Although the Italian Ministry of Health strongly recommends influenza vaccination for all HCWs, coverage levels in Italy are still far from the expected. Several studies report that one of the preferred strategies to improve vaccination coverage among Healthcare Workers is improving vaccination knowledge through specific multidisciplinary courses. To assess the effectiveness of an educational intervention on influenza vaccination coverage among Healthcare Workers a study was conducted at "Paolo Giaccone" University Hospital of Palermo, in the occasion of the 2016/2017 seasonal influenza vaccination campaign. ⋯ Despite the training provided, and an improvement in vaccination adherence by the Healthcare Workers involved, coverage obtained was lower than recommended to reduce influenza spread in hospital contexts. In conclusion, our data suggest that specific training alone may play a role in the improvement of influenza vaccination adherence, but it should be integrated by a wider range of public health measures, including mandatory vaccination.

Hygienic Requirements of Urban Living Environment in the Russian Federation and in Italy: a comparison.
Urban planning tries to contain and regulate the uncontrolled growth of cities, encouraging their sustainable development at environmental, social and health levels. In the present work, the authors compare the regulatory frameworks of the Russian Federation and of Italy, with particular attention paid to the urban aspects of living spaces. ⋯ The authors reckon that clear and updated regulatory tools should be developed, especially in Italy that lags behind, regarding the building and urban hygiene, relying on the most recent acquisitions of international scientific literature in order to guarantee the highest standards in Public Health safeguard.
