Cross-sectional study of the radiographic appearance of radiopaque lesions of the jawbones in a sample of Greek dental patients.
The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of radiopacities in the jaws of a Greek population sample. ⋯ The results indicate the rarity of radiopacities (1.96%) in the Greek population sample that was examined and the predilection for their occurrence in the jaws.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyOsseous changes and condyle position in TMJ tomograms: impact of RDC/TMD clinical diagnoses on agreement between expected and actual findings.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of clinical TMJ diagnosis, gender, and age on the agreement between expected and actual radiographic findings. ⋯ Tomography often revealed unexpected findings. It was not possible to select particular patient groups who would benefit more or less from a radiographic examination.

Comparative StudyCervical CT derived neck fat tissue distribution differences in Japanese males and females and its effect on retroglossal and retropalatal airway volume.
The objective of this study was to investigate the difference of neck fat tissue distribution by sex and its correlation with retropalatal and retroglossal airway. ⋯ Upper airway collapsibility analysis is needed to rule out whether increased BMI or IFV causes an increase in airway collapsibility.

Case ReportsBilateral multiple spindle cell lipomas of the tongue.
Spindle cell lipoma (SCL) typically occurs in elderly men as a solitary lesion in the posterior neck and back, but less commonly also involves the oral cavity. Here, we describe a rare case of bilateral multiple SCLs of the tongue. The patient was a 72-year-old Japanese man with multiple painless soft nodules in the bilateral margins of the tongue. ⋯ A clinical diagnosis of multiple tongue lipomas was made. The tumors were resected surgically, and they exhibited the histopathological features of SCL, composed of mature fat cells, collagen-forming CD34-positive spindle cells, and sparse mast cells. This suggests that differential diagnosis of intraoral multiple lipomatous nodules should include not only lipomatosis but also multiple SCLs, notwithstanding the rare incidence of the latter.

Vascularized free fibular flap for the reconstruction of mandibular defects: clinical experience in 42 cases.
Since the advent of modern microvascular techniques, the fibula has become a reliable method for the reconstruction of partial or total mandibular defects. The purpose of this study is to evaluate our experience with the use of the vascularized free fibular flap for the reconstruction of mandibular defects following surgical resection. ⋯ Our results reveal that the vascularized free fibular flap is a reliable method for reconstructing mandibular defects with an acceptable low morbidity rate. The use of the osteocutaneous flap provides good reconstruction of composite mandibular defects. It constitutes an adequate support for dental implants.
