Comparative StudyA psychological comparison of temporomandibular disorder and chronic daily headache: are there targets for therapeutic interventions?
Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and chronic daily headache (CDH) are chronic problems affecting the head and face. The aim of this study was to compare TMD and CDH, in terms of cognitive factors, including illness perceptions and coping strategies. ⋯ This study suggests that differences in cognitive findings between the 2 groups of patients are not sustained over time. Initially, the headache patients catastrophized, were more distressed, and more depressed. However, these differences disappeared at follow-up. Significant correlations between perceived performance ("timeline" IPQ); disability and anxious mood; perceived consequence with disability and depressed mood; and catastrophizing (CSG) with pain, disability, and anxious mood present possible targets for therapeutic intervention.

Instrument retraction to avoid needle-stick injuries during intraoral local anesthesia.
We present a new retraction technique for the intraoral injection of a local anesthetic. This approach eliminates the hazards associated with needle-stick injuries during the injection procedure.

Case ReportsSalivary duct carcinoma in the mandible: a case report.
Salivary duct carcinoma (SDC) is a distinctive and aggressive neoplasm. The most frequent site of origin is the parotid gland, followed by the submandibular gland. SDC originating in the minor salivary glands, particularly in the ectopic glands within the mandible, is extremely rare. ⋯ The patient remains alive 59 months after presentation as a result of postoperative full-dose irradiation and regular intensive chemotherapy using TXT, 5-FU, and CDDP. However, the patient has local recurrence and distant metastases to the lung and brain. In this report, we also discuss the specific diagnostic criteria and developmental theories of intraosseous salivary gland tumors.

Review Case ReportsNecrotizing sialometaplasia associated with bulimia: case report and literature review.
Necrotizing sialometaplasia (NSM) is a self-limiting disorder affecting mainly the minor salivary glands. The significance of NSM resides in its clinical and histopathological resemblance to carcinoma. ⋯ We present here the clinical features and histomorphology of an additional case of bulimia-associated NSM closely mimicking an invasive carcinoma. A high index of suspicion and good communication between clinician and pathologist are essential in recognizing this entity and preventing unnecessary surgical therapy.

Review Case ReportsSuperolateral dislocation of the intact mandibular condyle into the temporal fossa: review of the literature and report of a case.
Anterior dislocation of the mandibular condyle is common, but superolateral dislocation is quite rare. Because of its rarity, this type of dislocation is often misdiagnosed or completely overlooked. We describe an additional case of superolateral dislocation of the intact condyle into the temporal fossa. We review all of the available English literature on superolateral dislocation and discuss a causative mechanism, the diagnostic features, and clinical management.
