Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialArticaine and mepivacaine efficacy in postoperative analgesia for lower third molar removal: a double-blind, randomized, crossover study.
Comparison of the clinical efficacy of 4% articaine in relation to 2% mepivacaine, both with 1:100,000 epinephrine, in the prevention of postoperative pain after lower third molar removal. ⋯ Articaine provides a longer period of analgesic effect and a tendency for a longer period of anesthesia as compared to mepivacaine. The presence of a vasoconstrictor agent in local anesthetic solutions does not seem to influence hemodynamic parameters during lower third molar removal in healthy subjects.

Epidemiological analysis of maxillofacial fractures in Brazil: a 5-year prospective study.
The aim of this study was to assess the characteristics of maxillofacial fractures in the Piracicaba region of Brazil during a 5-year period and to delineate comparisons with worldwide facial fracture patterns. ⋯ The findings of this study indicated that epidemiological research of maxillofacial fractures allows the presentation patterns of the most affected individuals and the nature of their lesions to be outlined according to the region evaluated. Furthermore, treatment evaluation and complication rate analysis permits a more realistic interpretation of how patients should be managed.

Comparative StudyComparative study of the effect of tube drainage versus methylprednisolone after third molar surgery.
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of tube drainage versus a single dose of methylprednisolone (MP) on maximal mouth opening, facial swelling, and pain after third molar surgery. ⋯ We conclude that the use of a drain or methylprednisolone is useful in reducing postoperative discomfort after third molar surgery.
