Comparative Study[Comparative evaluation of the health status of descendants of people residing in environmentally unfriendly regions by means of mathematical modeling].
The aim of the study was to evaluate reproductive health of descendants of people who experienced effects of adverse environmental factors, such as radiation and chemical contamination (the descendants themselves were unaffected by these factors). Reproductive health of women was assessed by mathematical modeling. Factors of greatest importance for the health status of the descendants were distinguished among the 76 ones studied. It was shown that reproductive health of the subjects descending from the people exposed to radiation deteriorated more significantly than of those whose ancestors were affected by chemical factors.

[Activation of neurohormonal system as an independent mechanism of heart remodeling in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease].
To evaluate the contribution of activation of cytokines and renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system to heart remodeling in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in the course of a 2 year study and to estimate its relation to severe pulmonary hypertension. ⋯ Neurohormonal and imunno-inflammatory changes stimulate remodeling of right and left heart chambers. They independently affect myocardium and their influence is only partly mediated through exacerbation of pulmonary hypertension.

We undertook prospective and retrospective analysis of 120 cases of A/HINI (2009) influenza complicated by pneumonia in pregnant women with the purpose of comprehensive assessment of these conditions taking into account relevant risk factors and preventive measures. Control groups were comprised of 100 pregnant women with uncomplicated influenza and 100 ones who did not fall ill during flu pandemic. The risk of severe disease and probability of its fatal outcome in pregnant women were 2.5 and 2.4 times those in the general population. ⋯ Combined prophylaxis reduced probability of pandemic influenza in pregnant women by 5.6-7 times. Severe forms of the disease were due to manifest symptoms of intoxication and concomitant pneumonia. The clinical picture of lethal cases was characterized by severe pneumonia with subtotal lung involvement, rapid progress of acute respiratory distress syndrome, and development of polyorgan insufficiency.

[Peculiarities of clinical manifestations of chronic abdominal ischemia syndrome].
Peculiarities of clinical manifestations of chronic abdominal ischemia syndrome were studied. Clinical diagnostics of this condition encounters difficulties for the lack of pathognomonic symptoms, diversity of symptoms and similarity with other abdominal diseases. ⋯ Such features as the absence of treatment effect, increased frequency, duration and severity of abdominal pain, its extension to all parts of the abdomen and association with food intake, colonic dysfunction (meteorism, constipation) and reduced body mass require exclusion of this syndrome in patients with persistent abdominal pain. The data obtained may be used in early diagnostics of chronic abdominal ischemia syndrome and differentiate it from other abdominal diseases.
