The prevalence of lung diseases and its associated sociomedical losses remain to be intolerable. The advantages of Russia's existing outpatient pneumonia treatment are shown. Experimental and clinical data on the polyetiology of acute respiratory distress syndrome and positive experience with extracorporeal detoxification, various efferent treatments and auxiliary membrane oxygenation of blood are given. The current approaches to interpreting, treating, and preventing chronic pulmonary obstructive diseases, bronchial asthma, emphysema, interstitial (disseminated) lung diseases and mucoviscidosis are discussed.

Comparative Study[Use of total myorelaxation for placing a laryngeal mask and further artificial lung ventilation].
The specific features of placing a laryngeal mask (LM) under total myoplegia were studied. The first attempt at placing LM was successful in 98.7% of cases. A pressor response to LM appeared as increases in heart rate by 5.6% with combined intravenous ketamine anesthesia used during laparoscopic cholecystectomies (Group 1), by 10.2% at saphenectomies (Group 2), and by 6.7% with barbiturates. ⋯ The response to tracheal intubation was significant under all types of anesthesia. Regurgitation and aspiration were absent in all groups. The use of total myoplegia to place LM allows different current anesthetics to be used in the optimal doses and the procedure for placing LM to be greatly simplified.

Review[Comparison of transesophageal and transthoracic echocardiography in cardiac surgical care].
This paper analyzes the results of 1093 transesophageal (TEE) and transthoracic echocardiographic (TTE) studies made in patients with various cardiovascular diseases in December 1989 to November 1996. The investigation was undertaken to define indications for TEE. ⋯ However, detection of thrombosis of the left ventricular apex remains to be priority in TTE. TEE was found to supplement TTE and considerably improves the diagnostic quality in cardiovascular diseases.
