Multicenter StudyImpact of the COVID-19 pandemic and its related psychological effect on orthopedic surgeries conducted in different types of hospitals in Taiwan.
Taiwan's response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) differed in that it successfully prevented the spread without having to shutdown or overburden medical services. Patients' fear regarding the pandemic would be the only reason to reduce surgeries, so Taiwan could be the most suitable place for research on the influence of psychological factors. This study aimed to assess the impact of patients' fear on orthopedic surgeries in Taiwan amid the peak period of the COVID-19 pandemic. ⋯ The reduction in orthopedic surgeries in Taiwan's hospitals during COVID-19 could be attributed to patients' fear. Even without restriction, the pandemic inevitably led to a reduction of about 20%-30% of the operation volume.

Usefulness of the obturator hook technique for guiding the initial trajectory control in infra-acetabular screw placement.
Proper placement of infra-acetabular screws is technically demanding; there is a limited safe zone for screw fixation because of the complexity of the bone anatomy around the hip joint and the vulnerability of the major neurovascular bundles in the pelvic cavity. We aimed to present the obturator hook technique as a surgical technique for infra-acetabular screw placement in acetabular and pelvic fractures and report its radiological outcomes. ⋯ IV, retrospective descriptive study.

Perioperative outcome of severe rigid idiopathic scoliosis: Single-staged posterior spinal fusion utilizing a dual attending surgeon strategy. A report of 41 patients.
Various surgical strategies including combined approach and spinal osteotomies in severe rigid scoliosis had been reported with significant perioperative complication rates. The use of single-staged posterior spinal fusion (PSF) utilizing a dual attending surgeon strategy for severe rigid scoliosis has not been widely reported. ⋯ Severe rigid idiopathic scoliosis treated with single-staged PSF utilizing a dual attending surgeon strategy demonstrated an average correction rate of 50.9%, operation duration of 215.5 min, and postoperative hospital stay of 76.9 h with a 9.8% perioperative complication rate.
