Case ReportsComminuted simultaneous bilateral tibial tubercle avulsion fractures: a case report.
A 16-year-old male had simultaneous bilateral tibial tubercle avulsion fractures after making a sudden stop while running at full speed. The left knee injury (type V) was minimally displaced, was treated conservatively with closed reduction, and the patient recovered uneventfully. The right tibial tubercle injury was unusual. ⋯ Eventually, the patient required manipulation under anaesthesia, extensive continuous passive mobilisation and a turnbuckle extension splint. A residual 5-degree flexion deformity remained at 16 months post-injury. This case highlights the importance of identifying any intra-articular fragments, their careful anatomical reduction, and aggressive mobilisation when treating tibial tubercle avulsion fractures.

Case ReportsConcomitant ipsilateral traumatic dislocation of the hip and knee following high-energy trauma: a case report.
Traumatic dislocation of the hip or knee can occur after high-energy trauma and is often associated with concomitant injuries and secondary complications. Concomitant traumatic dislocation of both hip and knee is rare. We describe a case of combined ipsilateral posterior hip dislocation with a posterior acetabular fracture and a complete open knee dislocation with disruption of the popliteal artery that resulted in amputation.

Comparative StudyDiagnosis of post-traumatic complex regional pain syndrome of the hand: current role of sympathetic skin response and three-phase bone scintigraphy.
To evaluate the role of sympathetic skin response (SSR) and three-phase bone scintigraphy (TPBS) in the diagnosis of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). ⋯ TPBS is a very sensitive corroborative test to confirm the clinical suspicion of CRPS during the initial stages, but not in late cases. SSR can be used to document the sympathetic dysfunction in cases having an associated sweating abnormality and may have some diagnostic value in late cases of CRPS, when TPBS is less reliable.

Case ReportsThorn prick osteomyelitis of the foot in barefoot walkers: a report of four cases.
Walking barefoot is common in developing countries and the feet are therefore exposed to a variety of trivial injuries, some of which lead to cellulitis or abscess formation. If left untreated or improperly managed, osteomyelitis or septic arthritis, usually involving the heel or metatarsals, may follow. ⋯ All were treated with thorn removal, surgical debridement, and oral ofloxacin. Surgical removal of the thorn is the key to successful treatment and to avoiding recurrent infection.

Review Case ReportsSoft-tissue sarcoma mimicking large haematoma: a report of two cases and review of the literature.
We report on 2 patients with soft-tissue sarcomas mimicking large haematomas. Neither patient had a medical history of trauma or bleeding tendency. ⋯ It is important to reconfirm prior trauma and investigate the clinical course and images of patients with an unusual history of haematoma in the extremities. The possibility of a malignant tumour should be suspected, and repeated biopsies should be performed if necessary.
