A position paper presents the standpoint of the Israeli Urological Association on clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) for all physicians and nurses. The position paper is based on international guidelines and professional literature and is adapted to medical activities in Israel. CIC is indicated for the treatment of temporary/permanent disability in the emptying of the bladder, which is expressed by large post-voided urine/urine retention and related complications. ⋯ Different follow-up tests should be performed based on underlying disease, complications or changes in patient symptoms. The Committee described different types of catheters and recommends that the use of single-use catheters is preferable. Pre-shielding should be used before using the catheters without external coating.

: Minimally invasive fetal therapeutic procedures reduce the morbidity and mortality in monochorionic (MC) twins and in fetuses with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). MC pregnancies share their blood systems due to communicating vessels over their single placenta and may develop specific complications: Twin-to-Twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), Selective intrauterine growth restriction (sIUGR), Twin Anemia-Polycythemia Sequence (TAPS), Twin Reverse Arterial Perfusion Syndrome (TRAP) or anomalies in one. Half of complicated MC require intrauterine interventions. Severe CDH is linked to a high rate of neonatal death due to pulmonary hypoplasia. Fetoscopic tracheal occlusion (FETO) with a balloon improves postnatal outcome. ⋯ In-utero procedures are safe for the mother and increase newborn survival in MC pregnancies, thus specialized clinics are life-saving. FETO is a therapeutic option for severe CDH. Our results meet similar achievements reported by other leading world centers.

[DYSMENORRHEA - ITS PREVALENCE, CAUSES, INFLUENCE ON THE AFFECTED WOMEN AND POSSIBLE TREATMENTS].
Dysmenorrhea is a common condition among young menstruating women. It is defined as menstrual pains, which sometimes, may be so severe, as to completely cripple the affected woman in every aspect of her daily function. Dysmenorrhea may further cause female infertility problems. ⋯ Generally, medical and complementary forms of treatment have been found effective in alleviating the pain, while surgery was found effective in treating infertility. Dysmenorrhea, in general, and endometriosis, in particular, has a further immense financial burden on society - both in terms of medical cost, as well as absence from studies or work by young women. To date, no absolute effective treatment, in terms of pain prevention or long standing fertility preservation, has been found.

Force feeding of fasting hunger-striking prisoners is the subject of considerable controversy in Israel and elsewhere, posing a direct conflict between two basic ethical values: that of human life and respect for autonomy. The Israel Medical Association, as well as the World Medical Association, has taken the position that force feeding of such prisoners is an act of torture and is therefore unethical. ⋯ This position is consistent with Israel's Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty, Israel's Patient Rights Law, Israel's "Do not stand idly by your fellow man's blood" Law, with several Israeli court decisions and in keeping with the dominant Israeli culture. Finally, instructions for physicians who object to such measures are discussed, ascertaining the freedom of conscience as well as preserving the life of the hunger-strikers.

Eosinophilic fasciitis (EF) is a rare connective tissue disease characterized by erythema, edema and myalgia with induration and thickening of the skin and soft tissue, especially subcutaneous fascia. Laboratory findings usually show peripheral eosinophilia, and full-thickness wedge biopsy is essential to establish the diagnosis. Corticosteroids are effective and remain the standard therapy for EF, although some patients may improve spontaneously. In this article we report a case of a 17 years old male who has been diagnosed with EF 2 years after bone marrow transplantation and review the clinical manifestations, pathology, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment of EF.
